I noticed in the picture of the Knox Hat ,there was a size tag. Does it say where it was made? I would like to know if Fuji Corp makes these in Japan or in China. If they are made in China , then I know the manufacturer. I hope that there is a small factory in Japan still making hats.
It is...
Now I'm curious ! Who has the license to make Knox Hats in Japan? i know that during the 1950's ,there were Knox Hats sold in Japan. I wasn't aware that there was a manufacturer there that made hats .
Anyone there knows who make them?

It has to be old stock. The distributor liquidated hundreds of hats from their inventory a few years ago. We bought a lot of hats but they are all gone expect for a few pieces here and there. It is a shame because they made a realy good hat for the money ...
I dont think anyone has Lagomarsino here in the US anymore. We used to carry quite a few of them as did some of the other hat stores but the distributor closed up a few years ago. The only way to buy the hats now is directly from Lagomarsino in Argentina ...
Youngs Hats is long gone. The Young Hats that exists today has nothing to do with the Youngs Hats that the top hat is from . Actualy , Youngs Hats became the Stetson Hats store in NYC at Herald Square. It then became JJ Hat Center which is still around today...
I dont think that the hat was made in France. It looks to be made in the USA from the 1950's. I vagely remember seeing that imprint on some hats that were on Ebay a while back.

I am pretty sure that it was made by Christy's. As for the age, probably from the 1950's but it is hard to tell. Its probably a very lightweight hat.

Cufflink, you will never find a size 8 top hat on Ebay. They were never made in such a large size. Even today, the wool versions made by Bollman go up to a size XL. The only ones that may go up to an 8 are the real ones made here inthe USA. There is a company called Krieger Top Hats that make...
I'm curious as to whether Olneys still makes their own hats. I know that Pateys does but Im sure that there must be another (albiet it very small) manufacturer of fedoras in the UK.
Does anyone know?

Hi Bolthead,
Your hat was made in the USA by Bollman about 20 years ago . They had the license to make Barbisio hats here for a while.

Hi Max,
Your Barbisio was made in Columbia SA . The easiest way to tell the difference between the Italian and the south American hats is on the leather. The hats made in Columbia do not say "Made in Italy" . Not that they arent good hats, the quality on them is quite good. We sell them still...
I know that there are hat manufacturers in South America but I dont know of any hat stores left that cater to mens felt hats. I think that there are probably a few decent ones left in the major cities . In Buenos Ares there was one left that was owned by Lagomarsino . In Mexico city there is...
That hat is from the early 1980's for sure. The material was Parabuntal . They made a good hat back then. That hat todat would easily have to cost 150.00 or more.

Barbisio straw
That hat is very nice . Believe it or not, it was made by Bollman Hats about 20 years ago in the USA. They had the license for Barbisio and Panizza at the time. We sold them for 35.00 back then.

The Glen by Capas is made by Bollman Hats for them. It is made of 90 % wool and 10% fur felt. Not a bad hat for everyday use.

We looked into Magill years ago. I would stick with Biltmore 100% . Even though the price is higher, you get what you pay for. They have a line called the Senator collection that isnt expensive. The Magill hats dont look good at all. The shapes are horrible and the quality isnt much better...
Tonak used to make all of Dorfman Pacific's fur felt hats before they switched to the Chinese garbage. Look for the Scala label on hats from 5 yearsago . You will find a decent hat for a good price.
