    How vintage are you?

Items that get hard use are antique earlier than other items apparently. I did look this up before I responded in my earlier post. Antique furniture is something made before 1830, but that has changed, now that there is a lot of stuff that is more than a hundred years old, so that there is a...

    How vintage are you?

Well clothing is considered vintage after 25 years, it's (almost) 2007-25 = 1982. So anything made before 1982 is vintage. Some even use 20 years as a mark of vintage, so 1987. Antique is another matter. What is that now, 75 years? That's 1932, or the start of the "Golden Era."...

    What would you wear?

If it is evening/cocktail attire dinner then you would wear dinner jacket or a dinner dress, right? A suit or a cocktail dress would be appropriate too, I guess but it doesn't seem right to me. Most ladies today wouldn't know the difference between a dinner dress, a cocktail dress and a...

    Naff today...

Yes, the 80's are back. I've seen leggings, mullets on models, you name it. However, they are picking and choosing their looks. However, there was a 40's revival in the 80's too. I have some patterns from the "Dynasty Collection" that if I made them up in the right fabrics, would pass...

    Genealogy/Family Pedigree

FL ate my post. I'd post my pedigree here, but it wouldn't fit. Anyway, I have my family tree back to Adam and Eve if you believe the Mormons. They even proxy re-baptised my maternal line back to the 1600's.

    Under eye cream

You might want to try drinking more water too. That and getting enough sleep are two big to do's if you want nice skin. Staying out of the sun, wearing sunscreen and not smoking or drinking too much can work wonders on your skin too.

    Under eye cream

I used to use Chanel's age delay eye like Bella. Now I am using samples of their Rectifiance Intense Eye, also samples of Darphin eye cream and Occitane in Provence eye cream. They are all expensive. The best one though was a discontinued Chanel eye cream that used to relieve the...

    MissUSA's conduct & rehab

Okay gents, here's what I've gathered from my years reading about his women. They have to be young, and beautiful. Okay I get that. Young could be a desirable trait, ditto beauty. Then he obsesses over the minutiae of their physiques. He is looking for absolute fitness perfection. No...

    MissUSA's conduct & rehab

Why do you think he bought the pagent? Duh. He has an obsession with beautiful (but only if they are very fit) women. I would be creeped out by it, but I know that I am too old and not fit enough to ever be a candidate for his creepiness.

    MissUSA's conduct & rehab

I suffered through the press conference. She has a drinking problem, "personal problems" and got caught up in the whirlwind New York City lifestyle. Translation, she was getting drunk, probably also doing drugs and sleeping around. That is okay if you are a model, but Miss USA also has to...

    Vintage Hair Crisis

Probably not. You really need to curl hair to get it to look 40's and it is hard to get a curl with a straightener. I can get my hair to curl under with the curved edge of my straight iron, but that is about it. In a pinch you could try to curl the ends under in back a do a pageboy look. I...

    Vintage Hair Crisis

You could try some styles like these: These ladies all have cuts similar to your's. If you think your hair is too curly when you set it, try a curling iron. Once you curl it, you pull it back with clips or bobby pins, and you have authentic, instant 40's hair!

    Stocking Sizes

I have a pair of Magnolia nylons in Large, and they are way too short on me. But then I am 6' tall with a 36" inseam. Supposedly if you have thick legs, you need a bit more length, but I've never had a pair of non-stretch nylons that were long enough. I usally buy stretch versions with...

    Shattering silk taffeta

I haven't tried to restore silk taffeta, although I have put interfacing and a bit of scrap silk over a hole and then carefully stitched it down to make it secure. An internal patch if you will. You could try the interfacing. Taffeta is pretty stiff already, so I'd try one of the...

Have you ever weighted your slips?

I haven't weighted slips, but I have weighted jackets. You can get curtain weights at most fabric stores, they are pretty small (weigh about a gram). If you sew a few around the hem it would keep it down. You would totally set off metal detectors though. Just something to think about. ;)

    Intimate Predicament

Vintage underwear didn't stay up in the 1940's either. When my mom was a kid her panties ended up in the street by what is now the Santa Monica Third Street Promenade. She just stepped out of them and kept walking, because she was too embarassed. Bonnie Jean, time to go shopping! Good luck...

    Vintage Theaters

I found these retro photos of the local San Pedro theater, the Warner Grand: The interior isn't bad either: I tried to find some old photos of the Dancing Waters Club before Guns and Roses and Black Flag trashed it, but no luck. Currently it is a latino dance club, and more...
