I don't know how I missed this one! That is one bad ass perfecto Monitor. Can't get any better than that! That jacket should only be worn on a shovelhead.

This was seriously the best looking and fitting cross zip jacket I ever had. Photos don't do it justice. But I got a good offer for it and I sold it. Figured I'd get something else equally cool. Never did. Wish I'd kept it to this day. It was a 613 but some specific model. Never seen one like it before or after. It's somewhere in the UK now.
Schott can be all over the place but when they get it right, nothing can compete.

I'm saving for a 618HH at the moment and losing the last 30lbs as well so my timing is perfect.
I like the 626 as well though its a cow hide jacket. To make matters worse there is the 613SH model. Soon fitting 613 in Horsehide. So many choices. ....

Anyone have any photos of a work in Japanese jacket e.g. freewheelers, rainbow country, real McCoy etc. I’m curious to see how these jackets, and particular the Shinki looks when worn in

Rainbow Country grizzly jacket made around 2005, still used the same horsehide that the New Zealand factory used imo, no wax top coat or any top coat so it was fast fading. Previous owner let it fade and then applied a top coat to it to lock everything in. Current Rainbow Country leathers (post 2020) has the Badalassi like top finish, no squeak either, there is some top coating on there I can't figure out what it is, very nice stuff.
RMC (Made in NZ) J-57, used the same horsehide as the one above imo, no top coat. Previous owner didn't wear it much at all but even so the brown peaks through,
RMC (Made in Japan) Shinki SF Horse. Jacket was made a few years back with medium wear by the previous owner. This leather has a wax topcoat and therefore does not fade like the horsehide used by the previous New Zealand operation. Even in the sun light it is grey no brown. The Shinki SF horse is also technically tea base not tea core as it is not dyed on the reverse side.
Toys Mccoy jacket from at least 12 to 15 years ago. Previous owner didn't wear it much and neither have I. The leather is actual CXL FQHH the cementable version with an additional topcoat (different than the one Aero uses same as the one Johnson uses) is my best guess. Takes a long time to break in. Still looks new. No brown.
There are really only two general types final surface finishing, top coated (sealed) or no top coated (not sealed). The non top coat one will obviously fade super fast with wear and the top coated ones will stay "new" much much longer. You can use either wax or clear polymer as the top coat. I personally prefer wax as it looks a bit more old school but clear polymer will most likely win the water resistent test.
Once you have reached your desired fade you can lock it in with a sealant coating. The Rainbow Country guy just put another top coat (acrylic based) on his old B3 from maybe the early 2000s and he shared the photos on his Insta. I can get similar result using Fiebings Resolene at home. The problem with Resolene is that it doesn't keep well once it gets cloudy it no longer works so it's best to only buy it when you are gonna do the top coat job and not buy it and leave it on the shelf for later use.

Looks like the Shinki jackets tend to have a topcoat, and look relatively new, even after heavy wear!

Not all Shinki, only the SF horse (wax topcoat) tannage. A lot of makers would order their Shinki very differently and it can fade super fast. But there is always Resolene from Fiebing. Angelus also makes clear top coat too in four different sheene levels but I find that Resolene is mixed just right. The Angelus acrylic clear coat product tends to look a bit too plasticky once dried. Resolene is also acrylic but they already cut it with the right amount of water. Very short shelf life once pigment separates it no longer works.

It's hard to tell unless the seller specifies. I usually look up the jacket on Instagram/Google image search. If people are posting their jackets and it looks a bit brown then it probably don't have top coat and is the fast fading kind. Always google reverse image search, lots of things can pop up.
