    1970s Tie - But From the '20s.

Marc, I hate to put doubt into your mind, but are you sure that's not a 70's tie after all? I don't know a lot about ties, except that they were newfangled things in the 1920's, which makes me wonder why there would be guys in ties on a 1920's tie box. To me that box screams 1970's all the...

    Art Frahm and modern lingerie

Don't you guys realize that modern women only wear lingerie at home? At most they only wear their push-up bra, on which the bra straps are showing. Panties are definitely optional. Anyway, I gave up on stay-up hose years ago. I've put too many pairs in my purse. The exciting news is...

picked up this set of vintage silver forks with markings

There is a listing for silverplate in a different pattern from Montana Silver at replacements.com. These may be silverplate if they aren't marked sterling. They might not be miner's forks, but just from a silver company named Montana. Or the guy could be right, who knows?

    Favourite Scents

I find Flowerbomb very similar to Coco Mademoiselle. It has the same bergamot top note, with jasmine, rose and patchouli. It is pretty. It is nice, but not really a particular favorite of mine. It has also been banned in some airports because the bottle is shaped like a grenade.

    The City Verus The Burbs

The best thing that I can say about the suburbs is that I like free parking. I would rather be in the city with everything going on, or in the middle of the wilderness.

    Eating pets

Huh? I thought you were supposed to make a lot of money to survive under the new world order? Eating bugs, snakes and stuff that is so old world order.

    Eating pets

I don't see why not, I am saving my cat's fur for some future project. I guess I could spin it, or felt it. My dad had a friend who was part of the French resistance in WWII who once ate cat meat when there wasn't anything else, she said it was horrible. Horse meat was available in...

    Boots in the 1940s

Long, as in calf length yes, but floor length? It is not really done mostly. How often do you really see floor length wool skirts these days? During WWII there was fabric rationing, so they had to wear shorter skirts. Wearing a really long vintage 40's skirt isn't accurate unless it is...

    Boots in the 1940s

Not really, there was an earlier thread on this. Apparently they wore their shoes with rubber booties over them. It wasn't stylish to wear boots, except possibly ankle high booties. If you are an outdoorsy type and don't wish to appear stylish, there is this option (modelled by my great...

    Mascara on upper lashes only?

My lashes are so light that I can't get away with this. I even tint mine, but the lower lashes always lose the tint after a day or two. I wear mascara on the bottom, no one is going to convince me that two different colors of eyelashes (strawberry blonde/brown) is going to look good...

    Attention Sewing Flappers!

Lauren, those are so cute. I have been dithering over whether to make a cloud cape for a while. I also noticed that vpll.org has a new pattern folio out. Anyone seen it? It is 125 patterns from 1923-24. Here's a taster:

    20's-30's book recommendations

As for 20's fashions I just wanted to add that the straight lines also work for some larger-size ladies too. If you happen to have a thick waist, and fairly small hips, the looser waists disguise it. I think that the 30's closely draped gowns are the hardest to wear, the slightest "bump"...

    Favourite Scents

I'm with Violet on the violet scents. Although I was kinda disappointed with the Caron Violette Precieuse, you might want to check out another of my favorites, N'Aimez que Moi. It is a violet mixed with vanilla. I also like ambers, some of my favorites are Creed's Angelique Encens and...

    Vintage eyebrow shapes

I have plucked mine very thin in the past, and they grew back like gangbusters. If I hadn't seen my grandmother without her drawn in brows I'd be wishing they wouldn't grow back!!! Grannie's didn't grow back, she thinks it is because she used mascara on them. My ex-roomie shaves hers and...

How does a girl keep warm?

Are you not from Canada? The Montana branch of my family wears long underwear during winter. For skirts you can get knee length ones. Tights are okay if it isn't too cold, but you can put silk liners under those too. The long coat is a good idea too. Boots help too, but they aren't...

    Show us your vintage patterns!

I got them on ebay, they are a copy of the infamous "pattern sheets" where you have to find your outline and copy it. Still you do get lots of patterns.
