Silk is considered a warm fabric. The only reason it wouldn't be warm is if it is very thin. Tropical weight wools aren't warm either.
Lining is the best thing for itchiness, but I've found that highly twisted wools don't itch as much, such as gabardine, while wools like flannel tend to...
Oh, don't forget Paris in the 20's too.
I loved the photos, but the ladies seem so pre-1920. Did the dress styles lag behind by that much in London? They are dressed like Edwardians.
[huh]
I've seen a lot of stockings with all kinds of shoes. However, there was also a lot of socks with peep toes as well. I've even seen socks with sandals.
So, I guess you should wear whatever you are comfortable with, but vintage ladies usually wore stocking and younger women usually just wore...
It is next to impossible to find Caron in the US. I've heard the NY store closed. My local perfume boutique has stopped carrying it, and I've heard that no one imports it anymore.
Plus Royal Bain de Champagne was sued and is now called Bain de Caron. I bought a bottle at a perfume store in...
It seems that most of my current favorites are vintage ones, but then the ones that are sold for many years are usually the good ones.
My favorite house is Caron:
N'aimez que Moi - 1917 violets and vanilla, from WWI for the soldiers to give to their sweethearts.
Tabac Blond - from 1919...
See the Oviatt thread regarding my work's party. It is a formalish event at an Art Deco restaurant.
My family doesn't dress up for the holidays anymore. When I was a kid we used to get little dresses for Easter and Christmas, sometimes Thanksgiving.
My mom used to throw holiday parties...
Yes, but after the flat iron and curling iron, you have beautiful smooth hair.
Then you go dancing.
Then you get FRIZZ. I end up looking just a little bit messier than Einstein.
The brylcreem might be your best bet since it had hold and oil, it is a pomade like I was refering to in my...
How much hairspray are you using? The only thing that helps me is anti-humectant spray.
Which I hate, so I usually just have frizz.
A pomade would help too, but I find the oil icky.
Which leaves me with....Frizz.
I haven't had any hallucinations, but once I drank more than usual. The next day my eyes didn't want to focus, and everything looked like a Monet. It was beautiful.
Or maybe I just needed more sleep.
To me liquid eyeliner screams 60's since that is what my mom wore. All the same I have worn it now and again, being a redhead I wear brown or charcoal. I prefer a pencil liner for 40's looks though.
As for red lipsticks, my current favorite is the L'Oreal limited edition Buttoned Up Red...
Jersey was underwear fabric until Coco Chanel.
People mostly wore wool jersey, I have photos of my family in stripey t-shirts during summer. I've seen ladies in wool jersey halter tops too.
There was probably plenty of cotton jersey too, mostly underwear once again.
I made up...
It could be, but not in this case. The reaction is caused by blistering. Apparantly very painful, and also inconvenient.
Modern medicine has drugs that can do this without the painful side effects.
Back to Absinthe.
Anyone bringing any to the Queen Mary? Or would I have to bring my...
I've heard that absinthe may be legal in Canada, but also that their customs may seize shipments.
Getting it shipped to the US is a dice game. I've received shipments with no problems from Liqueurs de France, but my friends have had theirs nicked from other vendors.
You can also get...
My kitchen has the wooden cabinets that you see in some of those illustrations. I think they are the original ones, but I thought this house was 20's or early 30's.
Anyway, the kitchen used to be that green color, but someone decided to paint everything pink. I really hate it, but as it is...
Okay, I got Samantha's information.
She works at Mane Place in Long Beach:

Long Beach CA
tel 562 438 2437
She does have experience with vintage hair, here's a photo of some hair that she did recently:
She is also a makeup artist...
My friend works in a shop on second street, in Long Beach, I'll try to get her information today.
She only works in Long Beach on Fridays, but that should work for most of you.
I usually can't even keep the kissproof stuff on, but I've found that if you use lip liner instead of lipstick it does stay on for a lot longer. It is a little dry though.
All the same lipsense cranberry does stay on though kissing, and sometimes even eating. The color is not too bad...
