    Veg v. Chrome Tanning

Here's another one including the engines http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_B-57_Canberra Chaz HPA can probably answer the Indian sourced goatskin question with some authority.

    Veg v. Chrome Tanning

I doubt chrome tanning existed on a large scale in India pre-war. When I fist visited in 1986 the industrial infrastructure was incredibly dated.

    Veg v. Chrome Tanning

In the UK from the turn of the century, but it really took off during WW1. Men's outfitters placed ads in the magazines for coats saying they were chrome tanned and had greater water resistance. For boots, straps, saddles, shoe soles etc. veg tanning, then as now, was required to get the...

I hope Mr Plumbline gets to enjoy his jacket, I fear it might be incinerated shortly in WWIII

New Alexander Leathers Jacket ... I call it the "Adventurer" :)

Roller buckles do tend to loosen if you like to snug them up. The solution is simple enough, a couple of tack stitches through the existing strap stitch holes which is invisible. I borrowed my mum's thimble which helps to push the needle through !

    Vintage Photos of Leather Jackets

In the 1954 issue of cycle magazine there is a mail order ad for a Trojan horsehide motorcycle jacket. It's priced at $34.95. During the same year average income was $2300 http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1665&dat=19551020&id=IEIaAAAAIBAJ&sjid=hyMEAAAAIBAJ&pg=3044,5950263 Lets round that to...

It's very different in concept to something like a m-442a with elastic straps sewn into both the lining and leather pleats. Being less obtrusive there doesn't seem any reason not to tick the option box.

Lewis leathers 1936 pattern flying boots

It's a shame about Eastman not making them as they look good. I wonder if turning to an east European maker is the answer. This bloke makes excellent WWII German boots made to measure: http://www.koutny-cz.cz/en/fallschirmjagerstiefel/...

Stephen Oppenheimer's book 'The Origins of the British: A Genetic Detective Story' is a good read. See siobhain post. http://vnnforum.com/archive/index.php/t-38732.html

As long as you don't mention the word Eastman, dealing with Stuart Clurman is straightforward.

Celtic DNA in Ireland is less than 2%. Lower than central England. 60% of the population of the British isles including Ireland have genes emanating from Iberia and SW France. The highest concentrations are still in the Welsh valleys. These are the peoples who moved across the land bridge as the...

Eh ? There is nothing unusual about a made in England label. Hilllary was a Kiwi, what's that got to do with anything ?

Nope. Zip sleeve highwayman with swing back and slant top pockets.

I prefer a darker brown on a light tan base so I reckon the Warhawk vintage brown would develop good patina. A while back I was tempted to buy this brown sleeve zip highwayman on Aero's used section.

Not sure someone from Scotland should be throwing stones. You are after all responsible for quite a bit fashion crime........

The small swatch is Alexander Bison brown. 1.5mm. More of a solid pigment rather than semi-aniline. Pores still just visible. The large is Alexander Buffalo russet 1.4mm. Could almost pass as goatskin.

OK, back to more important matters. The large swatch is Warhawk vintage brown. It's between 1.3 to 1.4mm according to my callipers. A full grain leather (you can see the hair follicle pores) with that distinctive oiled feel. The smaller swatch is Aero FQHH brown from a decade ago. 1.4mm it...

Eastman Luftwaffe Jacket sizes for 40/42

Underarm gussets and bi-swing back provide the movement room in the Navy jackets so the body is narrower. The ELC Luftwaffe is quite roomy in the body, I used to have a 44 R.
