It's the translucence of the aniline or semi-aniline finish rather than the opaque plastisol acrylic used by LW that gives the colour depth. Years ago I used to have a LW A-2. It had the same light biscuit coloured hide as the BK. This was drum dyed in as the chrome tanned leather would of come...
Goodwear Europe Ltd. Avoids import taxes and may be able to bring prices down a bit !
AFAIK the companies have already cooperated a bit on repro label production. Alas Andy Falzon said:
"Last July we made an announcement that BK was sold to UK interests who wish to remain undisclosed. The...
Lewis or Eastman. Anyone who has visited Ivybridge knows it's a small operation in an area where it may be hard to recruit people with the required sewing skills. Maybe BK will make the new ELMC line as well as the unique models they currently make ?
Lost Worlds use some sort of bombproof finish on their jackets. Probably some sort of modern plastisol acrylic rather than traditional pigment finish that wears quicker. Aniline and semi-aniline also wear quickly.
If a leather had been drum dyed black after tanning the wear to the black top...
The point I was making is the speed the paint, pigment or dye rubs off is not directly linked to the tanning type or leather type underneath.
Played around in photoshop...Is this a closer colour match ?
On ebay recently there was an early Eastman black Luftwaffe jacket. These were made...
I don't think a leathers top finish has much to do with how abrasion resistant a leather is. Kangaroo and goat are denser weave and stronger per oz. than cattle or horse.
Indeed you have.
I used to think hard sell tactics were part and parcel of the American way of business. For example, this company goes in for it but with an element of humour https://www.atthefrontshop.com/ as do Lost Worlds.
Clearly though it winds some people up regardless of where they...
Clearly your not a real man without a pipe in hand....
I'm curious to know what Sears called this black jacket. Would it be strictly for motorcycle use in the 40's ?
The best patina I've ever seen on jacket was a brown early 1930's goatskin cycle jackets made by Simmons Bilt. All their jackets seem to age nicely. Veg tanned leathers with pigment and aniline finishes.
I think ebay might of done for them. There always seems a good selection at a fraction of the new price. For example this ladies coat

I was looking for a pair of sheepskin insoles, so ordered online £10 delivered.

This is one of the G&F jackets I used to own. It's the thinner type of goatskin with a crisp hand rather than the more rubber like feel. The lack of creases on the arms suggests in was never a soft leather. The jacket had enough use to wear through parts of the lining. I think it's veg tanned...
It's easy to tell nylon thread. Put a match to a lose end and it melts into a ball. Cotton doesn't. Both wool and cotton have a distinctive burnt smell. Poly cotton thread is harder to distinguish. A loupe helps. The 2 original G&F m-422a jackets I had were cotton. The later Foster G-1 from...
