Seal leather samples for ANJ-4 poll

There is the odd older Eastman ANJ-4 floating around with russet horse trim despite the old printed catalogue saying it's seal only. From memory John Lever used to have one ? I had a trawl through my old HD but couldn't find any pictures but came across this.....near mint B-3 redskin

Seal leather samples for ANJ-4 poll

My Grandfather was in the Fleet Air Arm during the war. Stuff like shearling trousers was washed on a regular basis because aircrew used to piss in them ! Also the gear was rotated between those on flying duty.

Seal leather samples for ANJ-4 poll

I don't agree with the belief that fleece cuffs get dirty, or at least no more than the rest of the jacket. The backs tend to wear smooth with wear. Shearing jackets can be washed on cold cycle, no spin, with just slight shrinkage. This original Roughwear is over 70 years old.

Seal leather samples for ANJ-4 poll

I would go for a light or medium weight hide when facing shearling. Here is some Italian horsehide, similar to what Aero are using, on my ELC redskin and .50 cal jackets.

Seal leather samples for ANJ-4 poll

Er...Cape is a type of sheepskin leather ? Original goatskin A-2s are quite common. Most original ANJ-4s though have horse/steer trim.

Eastman B-3 .50 cal Brand New size 46

The fleece is circa 3/4" in the body. It compresses so I'd allow 1"

I saved the images of the Cabourn jacket sometime back from the sale page. Most of the current website doesn't have Alexander branding visible.

Must of run out of 'made in Great Britain' labels ! 'British made' seems quote common on vintage jackets

I wonder how many people are actually working at the company ? A bunch of experienced machinists went back to Aero. Amanda left some time back AFAIK and the ex-honcho is detained at Her Majesty's Pleasure. They do seem to have had trade contracts in the past. I quite liked this...

    Real McCoy's are closing down..?

Well, I think the current time worn Eastman B-3 .50 cal looks very good ! The RMJP jackets I've seen are very high quality, heavy duty items, but don't look particularly like originals, or at least the originals I've owned or seen. The current Eastman's are lighter to wear. They still need...

I was surprised the Simmons Bilt name was still available to register. Quite a well known name in vintage jackets. I posted this scan from one of the Japanese magazines a couple of years ago.

    Aero Leather Clothing trial update

Back on topic ! Reading through the court notes I noticed retail valuations were being used. I was wondering if wholesale or retail figures are normally used in valuing company stock in hand for annual accounts ? WL didn't seem to challenge the high valuations being used by the prosecution for...
