That's not the point I'm making.... "thier semi-litterate" ! :eusa_clap

Yes, some people are easy to spot. KC for instance uses the same errors repeatedly as does someone at AL.
I mentioned it because Big J wrote in the Simmons Bilt thread
" why is it that every one involved with AL/defending AL on the lounge, seems to have exactly the same problems with spelling, sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation? "
I used to have a saddle made of thick Clayton leather. I didn't know they did garment grade leathers. You can see the traditional veg tanning pits in operation here

I think it's Austrian possibly made in Wien. Similar jackets with tags crop up from time to time with the address of a men's outfitter. Possibly mid-50s.
Some late war leather Luftwaffe official issue was also made in Wien
I've been working my way through the thread. Certainly learned a few things about shoe leather and some useful links for UK based leather suppliers.
Crockett and Jones make nice chelsea boots. In general I'd rate them a bit above Grenson quality wise.
Nice making of video here (make sure you...
The video link on page 1 from Grenson shoes was interesting. I've got some Grenson Chelsea boots made of fine calf. Note the one piece upper, most boots like these have an additional side seam. They have been making footwear since 1866.
I remembered at the time of purchase bewilderment at why...
Interesting little slide show on traditional leather tanning at Baker & Co. The company say tanning has taken place at their location since Roman times.

My 13 year old Eastman Roughwear B-6 went through the washing machine a while back as it was dirty (cold cycle, wool washing liquid, no spin)
It's fine. Some shrinkage : 1/2" chest, 1/4" arms and shoulders. Some knotting of fleece. Slight colour bleed into off-white canvas pockets.
Aero have been using a nice veg tanned goat from around 2002 on.
As for Connolly, I reckon it may have been chrome tanned. I've got an old issue of Car magazine with an article about the company when it was in London. The hides were photographed coming out of the bath purple blue.
They may of...
So, who was selling jackets with this tag in, perhaps the makers themselves by mail order ?
Lewis over the years seem fairly consistent tagging with their own label . See the early Bronx mk 1 with brown Aviakit label at the bottom.
It's from Free and Easy magazine issue 12. I picked it up in Tokyo in 2001 the year it was published. The photos are from the 4 page spread about Lewis Leathers including a visit to their London workshop in the Greenheath business Centre at that time. They also visited Aero whilst in the UK...
Lewis Leathers seemed to have used the name for at least 2 decades. The tag in the 1970's Bronx has the R in circle logo which I assumed meant a registered trade name ?
I seem to recall Ken Calder had a shop in Battersea in London during this era and might of seen the name.
