It might have been touched on but if not, it must also be noted that many people "out there" couldn't give a rat's arse about clothing and see the stuff in the spirit of function over form. They'd probably laugh their heads off if they knew what many around here spend and obsess about in terms...
And that my friend is the kicker.
A new leather jacket that fits well will have you wanting to wear it every second of the day, even inside at the dinner table and on the sofa watching the telly - much to your better half's amusement and even annoyance.
The fact that you're not wearing it...
Marinated T-bone steaks on the barbie, crunchy noodle salad, jacket potatoes and kumara with sour cream and chives, and Colmans mustard.
So good I might have to cook it again tonight.
Absolutely lovely jacket. I've seen a couple of RM's leather offerings in their stores here in Melb but never tried one on myself. Bet you're thrilled as it's a cracking fit as well.
Welcome to the FL as well!
In truth, that's actually a bargain now for a B-15C. They've skyrocketed in price over the last few years. If you want an original you have to pay the money, good examples in medium to larger sizes are well over $US1,000 now.
I nearly pulled the trigger on a 44 mint one a month or two back but...
Not bad words to live by at all.
I really think Aero are completely on the right track. Their new offerings are simply wonderful.
I'm quite sold on Søren's new A-2, one of the nicest seal hides I've seen in awhile.
Obviously it's very different where you are.
Down this way (and in Norway when I lived there) I had to condition my boots and shoes (aside from polishing) once a year otherwise I'd see cracking within a short space of time. And back in the day, if I'd left my rugby boots alone they wouldn't...
So Aero are working on a CC Irvin? That's great news and good on them for reproducing a flying jacket which has been largely forgotten or overlooked for so many years.
Really interested to see what it looks like.
Mate, that is just superb. You have my vote for Dad of the Year!
You'll need to feed her less though to stunt her growth so she doesn't grow out of it too quickly :D
Boots and shoes have a far, far harder time than jackets. They also experience more stress on the leather through movement and that combined with being hot and cold, wet and dry means they need to be conditioned more than a jacket to keep the leather supple and stop it splitting and cracking.
Just to add my 2c worth as well...
It's too short both in body and sleeve length for what I'd want. I reckon it'd be much better with 2'' on the body and an extra 1'' to 1.5'' on the sleeves.
There's nothing worse than a jacket which is too short, it ends up bugging the hell out of you and...
Sweet Søren!
I agree with BA, lovely colour - I'm a sucker for seal - and the knits are a great contrast. It'll look better and better after you beat it up a bit ;)
Having a second look at it, maybe it could do with being a tad shorter in the sleeves? That's some serious tunnelling there.
On topic: That Vincenza stuff looks superb, from the pics it looks to have a wonderful depth of colour to the hides.
Off topic: There's a reason why I've ended up choosing to go with GW for a high-end A-2 and it's not just purely because of the jackets. To quote old Elsie de Wolfe, "Be pretty...
Garry,
I'm in Melbourne and have an ELC Irvin. Now although we're a tad warmer here than the Grampians, in all honesty I really think you might be far, far better off if you want a sheepskin flying jacket to pick up a B-6 or a D-1 (both of which Aero do). I bought my Irvin when we were last...
Paddy I'm with you old boy!
7 Celsius tonight here and had the Irvin on out in the garden.
The opportunities are few and far between here to wear mine but with us moving back to Norway in December the old girl is set to earn her keep.
