The first TV show I can recall watching was Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. I don't remember exactly how old I was, but I was probably either 2 or 3 years old. I also remember writing him two letters, both which received kind replies from Fred Rogers himself.

I can remember watching Jack LaLanne's exercise show with my mom. As the show was on at 10 in the morning, this must have been before I started school in 1957.

Was also a big I Love Lucy fan, and this was a couple years earlier, possibly 1956 or 55. I would have been 4 or 5 at the time.

Would be either reruns of the 60s Spider-Man cartoon, or Scooby Doo.

For live action, Emergency! and CHiPs.

my best guess would be one of these:
The Carol Burnett Show
H.R. Pufnstuf
MASH
Sanford and Son
Green Acres
Captain Kangaroo

The first show of which I have real memories is Gunsmoke. It was favorite show for many years.

On a side note, the flying monkeys still scare the poop out of me.

I think Gunsmoke also, or maybe Ed Sullivan. And, Flying Monkeys are just so wrong!

Apart from childrens tv shows (Play School, King Leonardo, Crusader Rabbit, Adventure Island) the very first movie I remember watching on tv was Charles Chavel's In the wake of the Bounty (1933) it was the screen debut of Errol Flynn.

Yeah, I can remember Capt. Kangaroo pretty well.

I also remember watching the television broadcasts of the local wrasslin' matches with my dad on Saturday nights.

A movie on t.v. called "Killdozer" scared the bejeebers out of me.

And +2 to the flying monkeys. I remember when that was a big deal annual event on one of the three channels we had, and of course the folks watched it every year.

Yeah, what was it with Jack Lalanne? I also remember watching him! Howdy Doody for sure. Also Saturday mornings with Roy Rogers.
Glad to see others traumatized by flying monkeys!

Did anyone else get up early and just watch the test pattern until programming began?
