How can you tell a bow ties era?

Thank you for this useful information. I have had trouble with where to start, but that makes sense.

How can you tell a bow ties era?

I thought that they looked 1950s, as well. That decade also had good looking bow ties made. However, the patterns on these seem quite minimalist, and ambiguous enough through my eyes to look older. Buying vintage clothing is always a learning experience for me, in some ways.

    What are you wearing today??

It looks like a good job to me. Do you strap it down at the sides, or button it? Knickers or breeches are something I cannot bring myself to wear, yet, but I have respect for those brave enough to wear them as they used to.

    What are you wearing today??

Nice! I was at Hawaii as well, earlier this month. I did not dress up anymore than wearing khakis and a long-sleeved safari shirt with slip-on canvas shoes and a straw Sunbody fedora hat, in order to protect my skin from the hot sun. I could tell you from my experience, ties are extremely...

How can you tell a bow ties era?

Bow ties are still difficult for me to accurately date, as well. I realize that these below are supposed to be clip-on bow ties, but I could not pass these up. There are nice designs. Are these really 1920s bow ties, or have I bought something more new than I expected...

    Akubra Overload

Now my $60 dollar price can't even compete with the deal you had. I like the Snowy River hat, mine is fawn.

Wonderful tie, Luftwaffles. Right now, I'm wearing a late '50s or early '60s Wembley tie, maroon with contrasting vertical black and white stripes, which aren't straight lines, either.

    What are you wearing today??

It looks good, not too loose. That is about as wide-legged as I would consider, myself, however. I have on a vintage tie now, a late '50s or early '60s Wembley.

Royal Crown Pomade and Brylcreem is a good combination to use; I have it on today. I don't tend to use my hard wax pomade, Dax Wave and Groom, very much, as it is a lot more work to clean off my hands than something lighter. I do use Groom and Clean the most, usually with some hairspray if I...

    Hickey Freeman Face-Plants!

Around a minute and ten seconds in, I have noticed that the guy wearing the double-breasted suit appears to be wearing a tighter jacket than the other two. I like some of the slimmer fitting clothes that have been fashionable for almost a decade, but if one's jacket appears to be very tight...

Now that is a tie that sends others the message that the wearer must be having fun, not having to conform to a uniform. Very good!

    1920s suits

Thanks for the clarification. I'm still learning about the differences.

    1920s suits

That is true, even today. High boots worn with breeches still conjure imagery of Hitler or Nazis, for many people. It may change due to fashion, but the stereotype is still strong. It is one of the first things people think of when jackboots are mentioned, for example. However, even today, one...

    1920s suits

Thank you, everyone. I had overlooked their use for motorcycling, as well. It makes sense, as long pants worn with a suit would get dirty and worn, so breeches were the more practical alternative for riding horses and motorcycles. I suppose they did go out of fashion around the 1940s. Is there...

    Hair cuts

Now those gifs have made me curious. What movie are they from? I've gotten close to that length, recently, although last Friday, I've had my hair cut shorter on the top than I normally do.

    Obama's A2 ?

Yes, that would be ideal, although he could easily go down a size or two, and it would be an improvement. As for the art, I could see it being the Presidential Seal or the United States flag.

    Obama's A2 ?

I agree, Obama's A2 jacket is too big. Leather jackets approaching that fit may be commonplace among military personnel that do wear them, but if he is the President, I would have thought more care would have went into the fit of his jacket. It looks larger on him than those of the other...

    1920s suits

Since they are mentioned here, I'd like to ask, what is the history of breeches being worn in the early 20th century? As non-military wear, I thought that breeches went out of fashion in the late 1700s and early 1800s, mostly being worn since then while wearing horseback riding clothing, or...

That's a nice tie. It does look '40s, even though it has features in common with more modern ties, like the back keeper. 1980s ties can be quite good looking. A few pages ago, I posted a Sergio Valente tie that resembles late '50s and early '60s styles. To my eyes, it's very faithful to the...

    Show off the sports coats.

Nice! I wish one of my tweed sports coats had the same button feature on the vent, as it sometimes flares out too much. I think that double vents are much better for me.
