Unfortunately, I've noticed that while trying to tie my Tootal self-tie bow, the one I bought a year ago. That has put me off of real bow ties, for fear of damaging them. I have instead opted to buy several vintage clip-on bow ties, instead.
I agree, it was a great price! I don't think I was willing to spend very much more than the original bidding price, and I got it for just that price. As far as how old it is, I would certainly be interested in knowing if it could be confirmed, here.
Those are very nice sports jackets. You see few quite like them sold now. Is there a more specific term for that type of western sports jacket, or is it just that?
Here is an Arrow tie I've got from eBay:

The design reminds me somewhat of artwork done by El Lissitzky. Is this a late '40s or early '50s tie, or was it made before? The link has a picture...
I bought what I think is a nice, plain satin bow tie on eBay. It's a clip on. However, the description points to a '40s or '50s origin, as opposed to "1920s" on the title.

In the pictures from that thread, there seem to be some nice and interesting suits in general. I think the pants are beyond no break and too short, but these suits strike me as resembling a more idealized form of what modern suits could potentially look like, with heavier weights, more...
I have tried to do one of those knots with a modern tie of mine. Those knots look too busy for me, personally. I almost always use a four-in-hand knot, sometimes a half-Windsor, and less frequently a full Windsor knot in which case I pull the tie knot down tightly.
Here is a picture of two of...
That person must have a very good income, to pay over three million dollars for it! However, the man on the bottom left of that cover always reminded me of Donald Trump. Who knows?
That's a great tie, it's too bad such ties aren't made and sold today. Are painted ties even a thing at all, anymore, outside of hobbyists that do it themselves? Do any tie companies make painted ties? I'm thinking of palm tree and beach motifs.
The way you've made your wool hat is absolutely fine for that look, I don't think it needs to be fur felt in this case. It's a High Plains Drifter hat! You seem to have accomplished your mission.
I've got to thank you for the mention of the Borsalinos. I don't think anybody could go wrong, if...
I agree, that is a strange color combination. I wouldn't mind wearing the one on the left as much, the red and yellow striped one.
You're right, though, modern tie lengths are too long, even with lower rise pants. I think they are too long by at least 3 or 4 inches, sometimes more, using...
Quite true. I wear vintage ties that, based on many of the ties seen here, are a little more conservative and plain in appearance. I even like to wear solid ties often, normally wool, or knit wool or cotton ties. Almost all of the ties are vintage, usually mid-century. I wear modern ties...
A fur felt hat could be tolerable. For me, it is a decent option. I wear one sometimes during the summer, although not as often as during the fall, winter, and spring. I'm expecting to get a nice straw dress hat, soon enough, though. I only have one straw hat, which is more casual than I'd wear...
Thank you for sharing this catalogue, it's an excellent record of what could have been fashionable, or simply sold in 1920.
I agree with your reaction. There seem to have been so many different fashion choices all at once, in 1920. To me, the 1920s appears to have had the most different cuts...
Unfortunately, I have no photographs, but my great grandfather's brother was known to have worn a green suit sometimes, during the 1950s. I think it was a shade of forest green. Green suits seem to have always been uncommon, but could anybody say for the 1950s, or post-war '40s if they were...
This is what I've worn today, with off-white khakis, a black belt, and black chelsea boots being the rest. The tie is vintage, from between the 1950s and the '60s.
Everyone else has been looking sharp, lately. As for gingham shirts, I do not own one, but I wouldn't mind it. However, solid...
