Very good ties, Dinerman! I think I like them equally.
That's a nice one. I've been planning to wear clip-on bow ties, as well. I bought a lot of six bow ties, although their patterns are more conservative than yours. Some members here believe that they are of the 1950s or '60s era, rather...
I want to know something about braces, are they normally one-size-fits-all, or specifically sized? What are good prices to buy them for, on a site like eBay? I may consider taking up braces at some point, if not now, later.
That's a very nice suit, Dinerman. It looks to be burgundy, yet it doesn't appear to be so flashy to me. The stripes are varied and interesting. It's a creative, yet elegant suit.
The man second to the far left has an interesting collar. It looks like a club collar, but also structured very closely to the other side, with almost no spread in the gap. I wonder where one could buy a shirt with a collar like that today, in an era of very spread collars?
I also wear vintage ties made of synthetic materials, as in the ones you've listed. I think I have them made of all the materials except acrylic. Now I'm wondering how such stains would be removed most efficiently. Two that come to mind are a 1960s polyester tie that has a slight stain in the...
The tie and the clip (gold colored, with a red gem in the middle) are vintage of the mid-century, the hat is a Federation IV by Akubra, and the boots are reproduction WWII Service Shoes Type II by EMC Militaria. Earlier, I did have the shirtsleeves rolled down. I went to a few places, and I...
It may be artwork, but that's a nice looking suit. Peaked lapels can look quite good when that narrow. The high gorge seems to have been very common during that era, as well. How would we describe his hat, is it a porkpie?
Everything looks good! I have thought about buying a tie bar and cufflinks with my own initials, yet I still have not searched for the right set. That's a very nice tie, too. I think I've seen one that looked very similar on eBay, before.
That's a lot to get all at once! I've counted the 1950s with the Marilyn Monroe reference, the '60s because of Mad Men, and then the "'20s thing." It doesn't seem to have been meant as an insult at all, though. This person simply happened to appreciate your vintage attire without being able to...
I ended up buying these three. I really like minimalist, wool ties. The fold construction and the stitching at the bottoms are details I appreciate, as well as their light weight. I already own two ties identical to the solids, and the plaid one is nice...
For a jacket in such rough condition, they are demanding an extortionate price. I wouldn't want to wear a jacket that ragged, and I believe I could tolerate a little bit of wear and tear, but not that much.
The thread title instantly made me think of this guy, from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
Spending more time here, reading current and older threads, is an excellent start! You may also want to read the general fashion pages on Wikipedia or other encyclopedias to gain a more general knowledge of certain aspects of vintage clothing.
It's different this year than it was even a few years ago, from my experiences with eBay. I see less pre-1950s hats, ties, and suits available than I noticed when I was starting out in my vintage clothing interests several years earlier. It's only a matter of time before the infrequent 1920s and...
How is his health, now? Is Steve Delk still working on older orders, or is he putting them off in favor of newer ones? I did not order one, myself, but I am interested in knowing what's going on.
