just on the same note, I wonder if this process would work on say rough outs or boondockers.
sometimes these type of boots come larger that the marked size so was wonding if soaking them in hot water would break/shrink them down a little.
not sure this is has been asked/answered before but was...
I have the new ELC RW 27752 and the current pattern/cut is still the same as the previous version so not sure the new Star has been altered in any way from it's predecessor (which I use to own but sold on) but the new warhorse hide that Eastman's are currently using is fantastic.
I also have the ELC PH A2 in walnut brown, I agree with Jan on this, it is a fantastic jacket and probably one of Eastman's best sellers....
If found on my jacket that the time worn effect was very subtle and definately seems to suit the jacket and the steerhide is excellent with a wonderful...
I know exactly what you mean, I have a ELC G1 repro which is excellent plus a 1968 Martin Lane Co. G1 with VQ-4 stenciled in white paint across the back also and I find the ELC repro far better in quality all round than the 1968 original, however so was the price !!!
All the boots I have seen were dark in color, not the natural leather color it comes in. I've asked many of my WW-II friends exactly how they did it, and none could recall. Many however did recall using the top of an opened bottle of Coca-cola to smooth the rough side of the leather. They...
I have both the ELC Pearl Harbour A2 in steerhide (same hide used on the .50Cal A2) and the new ELC Rough Wear 27752 A2 in horsehide and I found no problems in getting the sleeves to crease to the desired effect.
All I have done to both jackets is give them a couple of hot water misting...
I have a pair of the ATF Boondockers and the sizing does run one size larger than marked so order a size down to your normal size.
The boots are very good quality with the correct sole tread pattern however not all sizes are currently in stock at present.
I also have a pair of ELC A10 gloves, definately agree with all the comments regarding these......fantastic gloves, well made and beautiful supple goatskin (well, there are now as I have had them for a couple of years).
Mine also have the darker knits which I prefer as opposed the berry BR...
For me, it has to be ................
Fighters
1) Hawker Hurricane
2) P51-D Mustang
3) Douglas A1- Sky Raider
4) Supermarine Spitfire
Bombers
1) Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress
2) Avro Lancaster
3) Consolidated B-24 Liberator
4) Boeing B-29 Super Fortress
Looks pretty good to me, I wouldn't worry too much about the fit either as long as it is comfortable and once the horsehide starts to break in and mould to your body shape it will feel even better.
I agree with the jeans issue, you should try your jacket with various trousers and you should see...
I know this question has probably been asked before but.....is it possible to tell the difference between horsehide and steerhide by look, touch and feel or do you need to go technical like DNA testing etc. on the hide.

I have to agree with Paddy, the Hurricane is also my favourite aircraft and even though the Spitfire, with all it's grace and speed just doesn't quite beat the good old tough, stable Hurricane.
Plus the fact that (possibly due to more numbers hurris in the sky than spits) scored the majority of...
I second Andrew's statement on Goodwear being the way to go....having been an ELC man myself I now have my sights set on a GW Roughwear 27752 as my next A2 but will probably need to off load a couple of my older A2s to fund the cost.
Aero Leather in Scotland still make the repro 36's, I have a pair and whilst not being 100% accurate (vamp issues - long story) they are extremely well made and good quaility boots....have a look for yourself...
