man, all the Buzz Rickson stuff is amazing looking. I have been eying that website for a long time. Congratulations to anyone who can afford anything from that website, it just does not make sense to me.

thanks guys for your suggestions, I am really just looking for the WWII USMC Roughouts. They have a different number of eyelets, no rivet, slightly different shape. I will get them eventually. Likely not until WWII Impressions does a restock in a few months, but you never know.

ATF boots

Hey,
I have the ATF Roughout boots.
I have had them for 2 months now and I wear them everyday to work.
Thats right, every day. I do not have any issues at all.

I have had good luck, may want to rethink ATF.

Thanks

If you don't trust ATF these may be close enough to the Marine version. They also sell on eBay under SSSMWholesale. Interesting just to check out because they claim to be the outfitters for the HBO miniseries, "The Pacific."

ATF is usually very good quality stuff. Anyone have a comment on the sizing of the boondockers? Rollin says on the site that they run one size larger than marked.

I have a pair of the ATF Boondockers and the sizing does run one size larger than marked so order a size down to your normal size.

The boots are very good quality with the correct sole tread pattern however not all sizes are currently in stock at present.

OK, I bought both the ATF and the What Price Glory boondockers. My take is that the ATF ones are better tread pattern but a tad flimsy at the toe. They sno-seal beautifully to look like a vet pair and are comfortable if you put a thick felt insole in them. The toe profile isn't as prototypical as the WPG pair but looks OK. I wear an 11 and had to order those, regardless of the sizing issue, because of the limited stock. They fit OK with the insole.
The WPG pair are dead on match to the ones in the USMC Uniforms and Equipment 1941-1945 reference book by Bruno Alberti, and are very comfortable to wear without an insole. The tread pattern is similar to the Army roughouts, with a Goodyear Bilt-Rite logo which looks fine, but can't be found in my limited references. Jerry sent the pair that fits my size 11 foot even though I can't find any sizing info inside. We emailed about this before I ordered.

Rollin at ATF says he is collaborating with SMWholesale on the West Coast to improve his shoes so the boondockers may get an upgrade in a year or so. We'll see.

Sorry to equivocate but they are both good repros. I will actually wear the WPG ones for week-end wear.

I own a pair of the WWII Impressions Service Shoe, but an early model, which doesn't have the rivet on the lace to toe, (like the USN version) since then they have improved the stamp inside and sole for authenticity, but i am very very impressed, better than any of the others i believe from accounts, and they are very very well bade boot.

I'm going to order their USMC boondockers as well at some point, but not going to 'dub' them like i did there service shoe, to keep the suede, which is a beautiful colour.

neither shoe has a re-enforced toe, and i don't think any repros do, as this is true to the originals, so the toes to collapse in. I will post some pitcures of mine

I just found my pair of USMC roughout boots on the top shelf of my closet. In the1960's I bought them off of the Marine Corps uniform truck that the Corps used to bring around to activities where marines had no easy access to marine uniforms . I wore them once or twice but they are really brand new. They have a mfg date of 1958 printed inside. They are 9 1/2 E. I will probably list them in the classified in the near future.
