That's what I was thinking, but I searched around and found a 1 star review on another Stratoliner (different color), so maybe it was more the comment that I don't believe the hat should have ever cleared quality control. :)
Makes sense. Thanks for the explanation of the process. I just can't break through the memory in that area. Too bad for my timing that the hat had to sit for so long.
I did post a review on the Stetson site. I was not harsh, but honest. I gave it 3 stars for good looks, but couldn't give it...
I'll sure second that thought regarding some of the felt. Last year I ordered a Stetson Stratoliner. It was the second one due to a size mixup and wouldn't you know it, the one that fit came with a flaw in the shape.
There is a very noticable hump across the top as if someone stuck their thumb...
I think it's a good looking hat! I wouldn't let the black spot bother me, especially since it's on the side and so close to the ribbon. Considering these are hand woven hats made out of natural materials, I've learned not to expect perfection.
I know if it were me and I returned it for another...
Short of a catastrophic failure of the straw, I'm sure there are tons of things that can be done to 'doctor up' a damaged panama, but yeah, it 'is' too bad when it's an expensive one. Good luck with your repair.
If money was no object and I wanted a really top shelf hat, I'd buy from BB. The blocking and finishing looks much more crisp and finely done than the PHD hat.
I do have a PHD panama and I'm pleased with it for the price. Money 'was' an object. I think the weave is really nice, however, it...
Fantastic! Thanks for posting. As a hockey guy and a hat guy, who knew I'd come here and pick up such an amazing piece of trivia regarding the Hat Trick origin. I've been sharing their site with some hockey buds of mine.
I loved their original storefront with the shiny black tiles and silver...
Just to follow up and let you know, a funny thing happened on the way to returning my Stratoliners. I got my hair cut (well, I cut it myself) and I tried on the hats. It turns out that the smaller one (7 1/4) is the correct size with no foam at all.
The 7 3/8 was just too big and needed too...
No, it is the 7 1/4 that is too small and the next size up (7 3/8) is too big. There is no in between.
Yeah, it is that possibility of shrinking that concerns me about the one that's a bit too snug. Thanks for letting me know.
Regular lurker, but with nothing to contribute, I haven't posted in ages. I always watch for this thread and finally ordered a Stratoliner in natural.
I really like the hat, but I'm disappointed in the sizing and need some advice, seeing as I'm not very experienced with proper hats.
I did all...
Sorry to hear this news Art. Stay well! I was happy to hear the part about working with your son though.
I'll add to what T Jones mentioned. For several years, I worked with my dad in the electronics business that we owned together.
Those were the most cherished years of my life. Priceless...
Speaking of caps and Canadians, I mentioned my Canada Cup hat. Kind of a funny story about it. In 1996, it was the first year it was called World Cup and it was the first time the USA won it.
i was rather emotionally attached to that team and I scoured the US for the championship hat. Never did...
Now this is interesting and not nitpicking at all, because to me, it 'is' as important as the distinctions between our other hats. For instance, I consider the ultimate ball caps to be the fitted kind, without the plastic one size fits all snaps.
Those are more my 'dress' ball caps. :-) Then I...
Me too. Lots of ball caps. Most commemorate various hockey championships (Stanley Cup, Turner Cup, Calder Cup, and Canada Cup). Funny, they are 'ball caps' and out of all of mine, only two have to do with baseball.
I watch it for Jellybean (Glen, the tracker). LOL! His character cracks me up. I actually thought there were some good plots last season and seriously, I agree regarding Spader.
I truly believe that the terms don't really match the hats at PHD. I ordered a Super Fino as well and I'm certain I got a Fino. I'll bet you have to order a Fino Fino to get an actual Super Fino.
I somewhat expected that when I ordered anyway and like you say, it didn't cost a fortune and I'm...
Kind of like Sinatra or Sammy Davis during a dance number. I'm sure it's been done by a lot of them. Some guys can pull off any look. Not something for me to consider though. I look totally ridiculous in anything that isn't dead on straight and pulled down in front.
