Baseball Caps (in moderation)?

I founds it odd that a forum dedicated to hats seemed so negative towards the most common hat on the market. No different to flat caps or bowlers of years ago.
I am a bit of a snob when it comes to my Ball caps. Not only do I hunt out New Era On-Field caps but I make sure they are made in USA. Yes there is a difference. I belong to another fourm that is all about them and its fascinating all the differences in something that is considered so simple.
My wife was just in Vegas and found a ton of USA made ones. Txted me and put me on the spot as to what one I wanted. So I have two new hats to break in.

Well, it's originally a forum dedicated to the Golden Age, so disdain for ballcaps was baked into the DNA.

A Yankees cap? I had a higher opinion of you, Johnny!

Golden age hats? The first baseball cap was made in 1860. The fedora got its namesake in 1891 (the play)....... arguing for arguments sake.
I don't love or hate the Yankees. In fact I like a lot of other teams better then them. As I said, my wife put me on the spot and I had to decide right there and then what teams I wanted her to look for. I have fond memories of the hats and logos form back in the late 90's when, if you didn't watch baseball but didn't want to be harassed for wearing a specific team, you bought a Yankees hat. If I had to choose one team to cheer for it would have to be the Jays. Got to cheer for the only Canadians in the league.

True, but baseball hats didn't look like they do now, either. Also, there is golden age and Golden Age, if you get my drift.

The fedora/play legend was debunked by the Hatted Professor on this site a couple of years ago but, like the JFK legend, will stick around for a while. He found an ad selling fedoras that predated the play.

Just giving you a hard time about the Bombers, too! But you should cheer for the Reds, who have perhaps the best Canadian to ever play the game, Joey Votto.

Yes, in the early days ball caps took on a variety of shapes. But their "standardization" occurred when latex rubber was added to their construction and made them the "structured" ball caps as we know them today. That happened in the early-1940s, so technically the modern ball cap is a product of the Golden Era. :D

I think part of the disdain here for baseball hats is that, in the GE, they were baseball team hats, only worn, by men, on baseball fields, and not everywhere by everyone, as they are today, with every conceivable logo, color, and pattern on them. As such, they show off a very casual air that fedoras, even with blue jeans, are a number of steps above, imho, of course.

Speaking of caps and Canadians, I mentioned my Canada Cup hat. Kind of a funny story about it. In 1996, it was the first year it was called World Cup and it was the first time the USA won it.

i was rather emotionally attached to that team and I scoured the US for the championship hat. Never did find one here. I finally had to order one from the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.

I guess no one cared about it here. I was kind of mad about that. They got a chuckle out of it at the Hall. :)

I do like trucker hats and I do wear mine on a regular basis. At the present time I have four trucker hats (back row) and two traditional ball hats (front row). None of them are sports related as I hate sports.

The green hat is a US Army ball cap from the 1970s while the blue hat is a USAF one. The NRA and L.L.Bean ones I tend mainly to wear for yard work. The two Arizona (my home State) truckers are my main day to day wear.
