    Oh heck yeah. The Native Americans called what would become the L.A. Basin the "Valley of the Smokes." :) I read a story in a 1945 issue of the Los Angeles Times that they had just outlawed back yard trash fires because of the smog.

    Most Big Boy models are modified from the factory to work on most HO track. I read somewhere that a totally accurate HO Big Boy model would require a track with turns no tighter than a 40" radius, which is impractical for a home railroad. Beautiful models! If you don't have a railroad...

    These are favorites for me. I love some of LeCarre's books, although the later ones I've read were somewhat impenetrable. Alec Guinness was marvelous, and the supporting cast was terrific, particularly Ian Richardson.

    PBS "The War" Series

    Watching last week's episode on my DVR, and it seems like a large part of the episode used a lot of footage from the William Wyler movie "Memphis Belle." They used the clip of the airman in a litter, looking at the camera. Amazingly, they cut it before (as all of us who have seen it remember)...

    It's very light in weight, but it doesn't feel flimsy at all. I think with proper care it'll last a lifetime. I've been wearing it often over the past few days, and the color combination looks better and better to me every day. This may become my signature hat!
