I've been using Dapper-Man for about six months. It is the bes that I have tried. I run a wet comb through my hair to wet it a bit. Then I rub in about a dime size bit of Dapper-Man. It holds very well and washes out. It does not smell funny either. What's not to love?
Funny, I have been looking at Black Homburgs, too. Thanks for the link. That price is hard to beat, but I don't know anything about Beaver Brand. Although for $85, I have to suspect that no beavers were harmed in the production of these hats.
Here is what I have come up with so far:
Christy's...
For that price, I'd be thinking of an Akubra Federation IV. It is available from hatsdirect.com. Here is a link http://hatsdirect.com/cgi-bin/products.cgi?group=Fedora+Hats
The Homburg is the hat of choice for a tuxedo. However, if wearing a white dinner jacket in the South during the summer months, a nice panama is the choice. If one is in full dress (cutaway during the day or white tie in the evening) then you could wear a homburg, but a top hat is really the...
Skeet,
Mulholland makes a range bag I have drooled over. The best price I have found is at Cabelas. My guess is that it should haul eight boxes of shells. And mine are all 12ga. I can't get the link to work right, but the relevant info is as follows:
Mulholland Brothers Field...
A Traditional Recipt for Mint Jelups
You must get up early in the morning, when the dew is still on the mint. You pick the mint. Then you must quickly crush some inside a jelup cup with a spoon. NOTE: The jelup cup and the spoon must be sterling. You cannot use base metals in the preparation...
My grandfather always carried a pocket watch. He broke his left wrist as a young man and wrist watches bothered him.
Grandfather had one means of carry when in a blazer or two piece suit that I have never seen anywhere else. He would run the chain through the button hole in his lapel and...
Spits, Mustangs, who can argue with them, if you have to fight. But if I could own any plane used in WWII, it would not be one of the fighters. It would be a plane I could enjoy. It would be a plane that speaks to the lifestyle I would love. And although not a war plane, my choice did her bit...
For those who do not recall Fred Sandford's Bloody Mary recipe, I will post it.
The Bloody Mary
by Fred Sandford, Proprietor of Sandford & Son
Bottle of Ketsup
Bottle of Vodka
Simple, yet tasteful.
I've head my Fed IV for may be a month. It is my first open crown. Mine has a center crease for two reasons. First, I could do a center crease. Second, I could not do anything else. So there you go. Good luck. Have fun. I did.
The US Navy got it wrong. But then their knowlege of the British constitution may not have been complete. If the Brits had chosen to open negotiations with Hitler, the man of the hour would have been David Lloyd George. Churchill has written as much.
Lloyd George had been a leading political...
Black dinner jacket and white pants? I have never seen such. I have never heard of it. So I went back to my grandmother's copy of Emily Post to see what she had to say. And Emily was silent on the subject. This makes me think that black dinner jackets and white trousers are more in the nature of...
The Nazi Thing
I don't think that there is much doubt that Edward was an admirer of Hitler and Musso. But remember, that we are talking about the 1930's. The world was in the Great Depression. A lot of people were questioning the basic Anglo-American system. Some flirted with Communism in those...
My Fed IV arrived. I have done a pretty simple Indy bash. I ended up with that because it was simple. I tried a teardrop, but it just didn't come out right. A center crease is pretty hard to screw up. But I really like the way it came out. So I will keep it like this for a while. I have not used...
In my view, and it is only my view, a light gray (Moonstone) looks best with darker clothing. Also, black can look odd in daylight hours. The old rule (Golden Era) is that black is never worn before 6pm except by clergymen. Dark grays were the prefered dark choice before 6pm.
And now, having...
The most beautiful aircraft of the golden era... hard to say. But here are my candidates.
First, the Supermarine Spitfire. Its eliptical wings make it unmistakeable.
Then there is the PBY or Catalina. Its long range made it invaluable during WWII, but she is a looker.
Finally...
