Im having some trouble. Ive decided to get a fedora and its going to be an Akubra. Ive read nothing but good things on here about it. Now onto my dilema. I like the stylemaster but I think I need it in black...does anyone know if someone stocks it in black? Ive also been looking at the akubra bogart as well.

I'm a big guy 6'1 300lbs ovalish face and Im looking for a hat to go with my black classic trench coat...suggestions? HELP! ;-)

Why do you ask?
Hmm... everythingaustralian.com.au can get the Stylemaster in Black, but it's a 3 month wait on you. Hatsdirect.com has the Bogart in black, but not the Stylemaster. I'm sure I'm missing some Akubra vendors but those are my automatic go to's for recommendations.

You may also want to look at one of the grey Akubras, as it also would go well with a black trench coat. Have you looked at this hat?

The "charcoal" is almost black in the photos I've seen around here.

It looks like Everything Australian can get you a Stylemaster in black, but I don't know that they stock it. In other words, it looks like there's a 3-month wait for it. Here's the link: http://www.everythingaustralian.com.au/shopexd.asp?id=535

I'd suggest emailing Sam at EA to see if he has any in stock.

Looks like the interchange beat me to this one. I agree with his suggestion that you consider a gray hat, as well. A gray hat will probably go with that black trench just fine, and I think you'll find it more versatile than black.

I must have been right on top of my game, getting the first word in!

One question, how do you intend to wear your hat? If for dressy/formal occasions only, I'd say black would be a very safe bet. If you plan to be versatile with it and use it for various situations, I'm all for grey. But, if you really like the black, go for it! In the end, it matters very little what we say, you're the ultimate judge of what you want in terms of color.

try a higher crown

I'm in the same ballpark as you, but about 4 inches taller, and the Stylemaster looked pretty silly on me. Guys our size tend to make anything with a low crown look like a porkpie. I returned it and got a Fed IV from HatsDirect, and am much more pleased with the result. I got Carbon Grey, which goes with just about anything. Just something to consider. My Stylemaster was nice, but the low crown didn't leave much room to re-bash. Thanks, Frank

I wear a lot if darker clothing. Grays, greens, and black so I figure black would match. At least I think...I suck at style

In my view, and it is only my view, a light gray (Moonstone) looks best with darker clothing. Also, black can look odd in daylight hours. The old rule (Golden Era) is that black is never worn before 6pm except by clergymen. Dark grays were the prefered dark choice before 6pm.

And now, having further confused the issue, I will log off and wish you well. Remember that if your problem is trying to figure out which Akubra to buy, it's a pretty good day.

Matching is well and good for many occasions, but not to excess. You're looking for something that compliments. A dark suit, black trench and black hat will make you look like the guy ratting on the mob to some FBI agent in a back alley.

Stick with a mid gray if you're wearing it with a large amount of black in the rest of your outfit.
