So sorry to log in this morning and see this sad news from you, TX. My deepest sympathies at your painful loss and that of your family.
I'm so glad the jacket turned out so well and he was over the moon with it. That's a bulls-eye of a gift you had made for him. Bravo.
May he rest peacefully...
Without hijacking Warped's thread unduly, I can say that the air show at RAF Duxford was one of the finest I have EVER been to.
It began with a near full squadron of Spits - 11 in all - flying about in various formations and peeling off like the leader leading a Tally-Ho. I mean, really. Where...
Very nice - great colour and fit on you, Sir. A good choice.
I was just in the UK for two weeks and managed to be in the ELC tent at the air show at RAF Duxford and being in there's a bit like being a dog in a forest ! What a rare delight. An utter indulgence.
I love the terracotta coloured...
I think that's a bit harsh. It looks stylish to me - and I wouldn't judge it until I could see it properly on someone. But to me it looks rather smart.
I have to agree with HD at the news of the velcro - purely if I may say so, and IMHO merely to be constructive, but where patches are concerned, I think it's a case of in for a penny, in for a pound. Sewing it on would be the only option for me ...
And if you're worried about not getting a neat...
PS. And if I may, I'd just add here that the Denton Doll patch appears quite "bright" in its whiteness ... if it was me, I'd tone it down just a shade by giving it a very light wash of tea - applied with a cloth. That'd help to take the brightness out of it and tone it into the browns of the...
From what I know from my various reference books, the squadron patches and group patches followed a firm pattern and were panel specific, but as I always point out, anomalies always abound. The same with name tags - most appear on the wearer's front-left panel but at all varieties of heights and...
I think that these jackets with pre-painted nose/jacket art designs are simply for those people who want the look of a WW2 jacket - but can't paint it themselves or don't want to find an artist either; they just want the look and they have the cash to pay for it and they're done. Fair enough.
I...
Absolutely I like a name tag on my A2, ANJ-3, B3 and C3 and with my name on each. Why ? Because a name tag separates them from every other A2 or whatever it is that's out there in the world (of which there are many) and it makes them my own, so in a small way it makes the jacket unique and the...
Couldn't have said it better myself. She's one heck of a keeper there, mate !
And so is the jacket. I love the fit too. A score all 'round. Fantastic.
Now go and kiss that wife of yours again. :)
Now that's what I call a first post ! Thanks for posting and welcome to the FL ...
Great jacket and fit. It'll get a lot of wear in Chicago this Fall and Winter - and I'm sure you'll both be very happy together. :) Money well spent.
Well that's very good to know, HD. I've always wondered how one would rate compared to my B-6. I still think it looks mighty fine to me, though and a worthy contender for Winter.
Hmmm. So, you want a "bomber" that's a) warm, b) stylish and c) not military/reproduction.
If that's the case, I'd suggest an Aero Longshoreman in sheepskin and Horsehide:

It would tick all of the above boxes for me.
Thanks very much for the insight, BN - and it sounds as though the L2-B will be warmer than a standard L2 and that's the most I need out here at this time of year - it's already a silly 30C again already. I know. I know. I shouldn't complain a single word after that BRUTAL and LONG Winter, but...
