I'd say that my old Irvin by Aviation Leathercraft was bulky - for sure - because it was rather over-engineered with overly-thick shearling - in a way that wartime supply constraints could never have made possible.
On the other hand, my ELC Irvin is made to wartime specs and, as such, is much...
I've just had received the e-newsletter from ELMC this morning - and so have had my first proper look over the entire catalogue (and seen the prices <gulp!>) - and the video played for me too (my PC would not oblige me the last time I tried) - and having reviewed all the posts here again, I have...
I'm glad you liked them, Smithy. I just threw them up here as things can get a little dry around here at times - I mean, Christ, if we can't laugh at ourselves occasionally, well ....
And no.
:)
Oh, any A2 should be worn as often as possible and in every weather, I completely agree.
And you know what - thinking more about it, you're right, Rocketeer; you made me remember that the guy who did my incised/painted leather patches for my ANJ-3 once sent me photos of his A2 - and it's a GW...
That jacket's so brilliant, Andrew, that I'd say that the only problem I'd have with it is that it's too nice to paint some pin-up art on !
And that's why I'd probably have something less nice for myself ... I couldn't do it to that one of yours ! No way. It's complete just as it is.
And what about the thing that all the young 'uns do with their fingers whilst taking their "selfies" - making gang signs !!! - that kills me. They'd all NEED those crotch pants if any of them ever strayed from the safety of their malls and rich parents' neighbourhoods and ran in to some real...
Yeah, the one-pant-leg-up thing is another look from the prisons - a visual to distinguish the gang. It's no wonder they got caught and went to prison - you can't run properly from the Po-Po when the pants are around your thighs!
Oh, those brush-cuts on the kids ... Jeez! Don't get me started ....
And do you remember a few years back when the thing to do with your jeans was to pull one leg up to the knee ?!?! Thank God nobody on the Gustin Jeans thread does that - or wears their denim with the waistband down on the...
I would prefer none of it, myself. The veterans got the cool look we admire solely by authentically wearing the jacket - a lot, in all weathers and seasons. Nothing more - nothing less. I don't think there's ANY substitute for that finish other than doing the same. It's as simple as that.
Or the "denim" that was "faded" white on the backs of the thighs, but to me it just looked like the wearer had sat down on a freshly painted park bench. Yeah, Real cool.
OMG. That's no different to buying a pair of denim jeans with paint flicked on to them - or "distressed" to the point of fraying and tears. Pretentious crap.
Steve "The King of Cool" McQueen would laugh at the absurdity of it all.
That's an interesting niche that Gary's pursuing - in tandem with the military gear.
Mind you, when one considers how popular the Sons Of Anarchy series has become in popular culture - and I noticed last year that the Toronto chapter of the Hells Angels are now making t-shirts and selling them...
With all due respect, I would kindly advise against letting something like a delivery date be the determining factor when investing in a top-end product like an Irvin - something that will last you many years/decades to come, so make it an enlightened choice. I suspect that one maker will appeal...
