GW Rough Wear A2 AC 18091

I have owned this GW A2 since last summer and have finally got around to posting some pictures. It is made from John's Indian russet goatskin which is a perfect match for the goatskin used on originals from this contract. The original contract dates to 6th March 1941 and 17,628 jackets were made. I have owned an original from this contract and seen several others and John's repro is a perfect copy. It is fitted with a NOS M-39 Talon as per originals. It is a size 46 but fits much like my three original size 44 Rough Wears.

Great jacket there Aswatland. And for a repro to get praise like that from you then you KNOW it's a keeper. I wore my GW today as well... just warm enough to get away with it.

That's a nice fit, Andrew. Nothing new for John, though. I never cared for this contract. But this shade of russet and the way it fits you has changed my mind for sure! That looks classic WWII!

Andrew, if its not prying too much, what was your most recent A-2 purchase? Do you have anything on order?

That jacket's so brilliant, Andrew, that I'd say that the only problem I'd have with it is that it's too nice to paint some pin-up art on !
And that's why I'd probably have something less nice for myself ... I couldn't do it to that one of yours ! No way. It's complete just as it is.

Thats the trouble with these super expensive reproductions, people are almost frightened to wear them in normal situations. Have you noticed how many high end repros come up for sale as 'Mint condition' 'Hardly worn' 'Minimal wear' etc. I have a few Eastman jackets, an A2 that looks almost as beat up as an original and a B3 Roughwear that has lots of bald spots were originals do too.
I always wanted a decorated jacket, had a couple in the past but if I wanted one now, personally i would not worry what I spent on the thing, I would get it painted up so the wear was even. Nothing looks odder than an old jacket with a fresh painting. And you never know, if the jacket is worn enough over the years it may even pass for an original, but in 60 years time I will have been dead a long long time.

This was the last repro A2 I bought and no I do not have anything on order with John Chapman.

Oh, any A2 should be worn as often as possible and in every weather, I completely agree.
And you know what - thinking more about it, you're right, Rocketeer; you made me remember that the guy who did my incised/painted leather patches for my ANJ-3 once sent me photos of his A2 - and it's a GW and the price didn't stop him from adding a couple of patches and he also painted it a little - and it looks absolutely brilliant too.
