I'm not a prolific buyer on eBay, but when I do chase something of interest, I use eSnipe and have been for years. It's a great tool for bidding that prevents that "urge" to go higher than you otherwise may wish to.
For anyone who is unfamiliar with it, it's an online service whereby you can...
Same up here, I'm afraid. We just had the hottest day of the Summer a couple of days ago - a sizzling 41C with the humidex - and they're calling for a warmer-than-usual Autumn, so methinks it'll be a while before the Irvin ventures out.
I'm just hoping that the Fall lasts a nice while so my new...
And I feel sorely tempted to go for a ridiculously priced Buzz Ricksons baseball cap in the faded red … but I think it'd look great with the L2-A!
PS. And I spoke to Charles at HPA - I should have the jacket by the end of the month. :)
I know - it was a great colour. I moved it on as my girlfriend said she was sick of seeing me in all my flight jackets all year round and they all look the same to her (apparently) and they're all brown leather and earth tones … and so I decided to let it go and just wear a denim jacket. I know...
As you're going to be "in the neighbourhood" of Galashiels anyway, then you might like to consider a look at Alexander Leathers to see their Irvin …? I know that that's what I'd do - just to consider all options before parting with a wad of lettuce. And I dare say that it'll make you feel better...
Still not sure when it'll be - Charles said he'd let me know when it's ready to ship so he can let me know the charge on my credit card ... so no news is still good news pending ! :)
But I know what I'm in for with the quality - this will be my second BR (an L2-A) and you're right when you say...
The jacket looks great, BN ! I like the transitional lining a lot as it makes it a touch different - and it fits nicely on you too !
Now I'm really looking forward to mine showing up … somewhat impatiently now ! :)
(And now I get the "I'll show you mine if you show me yours" comment!). Will...
Quite right, Atticus. Loved your post !
But what gets me is the weather man on one local channel on TV - he's an absolute whizz at long range forecasts and he's invariably spot-on in saying how the entire season ahead will play out …
But getting any of them to offer up an accurate weekend...
No, not heard anything from HPA yet … :( But it's coming… it's a sure thing. Just a matter of time now. Can't be long …
Thanks for the sagely advice, BN - and will do! I wouldn't think to use generic terms … but I will now ! :) Will let you know if I find something that ticks enough boxes and I...
I know what you mean ! So many other kids wore these sort of jackets in the late 70s when I was at school (with the fake fur hood trim of course) and they were everywhere and I wouldn't have been seen dead in one, then … and now I like them and I want to cough up a couple of hundred bucks on one !!!
May I ask where you find all these good nylon jackets ? Is it by trawling eBay ?
I find myself thinking about a nice, vintage USAF N3-B with a plush fur trim on the hood - to go over a good wool sweater and my ELC B-6 for those "F*#* me, it's f*$#@*g COLD!!!" days - and think that Summer is...
You're very welcome.
And nice Prisoner jacket on your avatar there (… and I spent most of my time last month back in the UK in Sheffield - when La Tour rode in … still a top city).
Last year I saw the Farmer's Almanac forecast for the winter and posted it here - and indeed, as we all now know, the forecast was completely accurate and it was BRUTAL !!! Winter is my favourite season, and even I was glad to finally see the back of it …!
I hate to say it, but it looks like...
And this is the effect that I was speaking about - where the weather vane appears either grey or white, depending on the angle ...!
And the 422nd squadron insignia can be seen on the far right pillar on the other photo.
And lastly Robrinay, if your pal asks why the Triangle G on his...
I can't tell you much/anything about the jacket - except I like it. Looks like a nice jacket to wear to me.
What I can tell you about the subject of the art - the B-17 and where the name comes from - is that the Triangle-G on the tail tells us that it's the 305th Bomb Group, and the name of...
