I'm going to bow out too. I already have 3 silverbelly Campdrafts and the difference in brim length just doesn't justify it for me. I was in more for the Moonstone color than the brim length. Thanks for trying to put this together.
By the way, I think Josh suggested a great name for it...
Doug,
That's good to know about the old steamer. I thought they were just going to use that Jiffy steamer in the front. Sometime I'd like to see one of your hats they used the old steamer on.
I'm not sure when or even if I can get down there today. If I can it will probably be late this...
Josh,
I'll try to take some close up pictures of the felt on the 10X and some of one of my older Stetsons. It might be this weekend before I can do it though.
I would say it is still not in the same league as a vintage Stetson but it is the closest I have seen on any of their new...
Doc,
This is a special run of Stetson Open Roads only sold by Paris Hatters. You can read more about it in the previous posts. Not all new Stetsons are this nice.
I am a 7 3/8 long oval so I'm usually in between sizes. I tried a 7 1/2 and 7 3/8 and ended up going with a 7 3/8. Since the...
Stetson 4X vs 10X Color Comparison
Here is a color comparison of the modern Stetson 4X vs the modern Stetson 10X. The 4x is on the left and the 10X is on the right. The 10X is noticeably lighter colored but the pictures don't show it very well. In person you can really see a difference. The 10X...
New Production Stetson Open Road 10X
Here are some pictures of my new production Stetson Open Road 10X. It did come with a Stetson branding iron pin that I removed. Other than the JBS pin being removed this is how it looks right out of the box. It hasn't been steamed at all and the brim easily...
Thanks Doc. You have a good eye for pistols, that is a Colt Commander. It is 3/4" shorter than a Government Model and 3/4" longer than an Officer's Model. The picture is actually from an old Colt advertisement so it is not my pistol. I do have a Commander just like it with ivory grips that was...
Doc,
Great find! Apparently it was located in the lobby of the Gunter Hotel. That is probably why most locals didn't know much about it. I bet most of their hats were sold to visitors staying at the hotel and ended up somewhere besides San Antonio. A local probably would have bought his hat...
Tom,
According to Abe he had to order 48 of them to get the special order made. I think that is 48 of each grade. When I was in there I think he said he had already sold 31 of them. He still had quite a few left in different sizes. I didn't count them but he had the whole back wall lined up...
I purchased one of the new Paris Hatter's Open Roads too. I purchased the 10x from Abe instead of the 20x that DougC purchased. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures yet but will try to post some in the next few days. I'm out of town working right now.
My first impression of it is it is a...
I did a little asking around and so far I can't find anybody that remembers the shop. There did used to be a men's store named Adelman's that everybody remembers but not Alterman's.
Doc,
That's a great looking Stetson. I was born and raised in San Antonio. I still live here today and I've never heard of Alterman's Man's Shop. I'll let you know if I can find anything out about it.
Che, great looking Milan!
I received my lightweight Granite yesterday and love it. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to post pictures from my IPad. I'll have to post them later from my regular computer. It's a beautiful hat though. I love the Granite color.
Dinerman,
Being a Colt collector myself, the one pistol of your grandfather's that stands out to me is the Colt Model 1911 with what appears to be ivory grips in the lower left hand side of the picture of pistols. It is a model 1911 and not a model 1911-A1. You can tell by the flat mainspring...
Robert,
Nice looking diamond creases. I like a diamond crease mainly because it straightens the sides and removes any taper. Personally, I like the way a teardrop looks when viewing it from above but on some hats it won't remove the taper on the sides.
I think the reason the Adam looks...
Alan,
I agree totally. I was hesitant to even use it for a tip sticker but I asked Art Fawcett first. He didn't recommend a particular brand but said to use fabric glue and use it very sparingly. I think for reattaching the reed to a sweatband you don't have as much to worry about. I was...
