Thanks for your thoughtful suggestions, chaps. To be more precise, the Stockman came with a full alpaca lining (torso and sleeves). I am, at some expense, sending the Stockman back to have new arms put on because I ordered it with raised armholes: a mistake, as it was just too close to the...
Loungers, would welcome your thoughts. I'm having my Aero Stockman relined and am wondering whether I should have the arms, as well as the body, lined in Alpaca. I've never had an Aero fully lined in Alpaca before. How warm do people find them, especially for a London winter? Or in other...
Yes, the sleeves are pretty slim. I think it's one of Aero's sharpest jackets. But you can't carry it off if you've got any extra luggage around the belly.
Sir J
The Teamster. At last - it's like seeing some mythical beast. A great jacket. And a very nice fit: does it feel trim on, Equality? I'm rather tempted to get one in black FQHH.
And did it come with the horn buttons or were they a modification?
And did you retain the alpaca lining? How warm is...
It's true, Archer Adams has a few models. I, too, remember the Covent Garden shop, Sam Walker, which had scores of Aeros. Seems what happened is SW started making Aero clones, and they fell out. Strange that Aero doesn't have another big London stockist, though. Perhaps it's about keeping costs...
Griff, as you probably know, the 30s HB is supposed to ride quite high. Lengthen it, and it will lose its distinctive look. The fit looks excellent to me; true, the sleeves are quite long but I think they will come right with time.
Sir J
Griff, here are the full M422A specs; the 30s HB is a size 40. In most of my other Aeros I've gone for a 38 with added arm and body length.
- Size 42 M422A in dark brown oil pull horsehide
- Back length from collar seam to bottom of knit: 26 inches
- Arm length, including knitted cuff: 25.5...
Cheers, Jan. I'll give it a try. The only thing is that I asked for the arm holes to be slightly raised and they're too raised! You can feel them pinching the arm pit (if you really want to know) and it makes it to constricting to wear a jumper.
Do you think the stretching technique would work...
Thanks, Jan. Yes, you did embolden me to "go olive" -- much appreciated. Poster above seems to think it was a crime against naval jackets, however. Thoughts?
After quite a bit of experience with Aeros now, I always go for the trimmer cut. Horsehide is just so heavy (if beautiful), I find, you...
Gang, by how much do you think I need to lengthen the Stockman sleeves? If I'm going to replace them I might as well get everything right.
Griff, will provide full specs shortly.
Butte, yes, the law enforcement reference was deliberate. C'mon these are leather jackets, after all! Rebels...
Loungers, through a combination of chance and will, I swapped my entire Aero collection in a matter of weeks recently. Here it is now. Let me know what you think. Am I almost there? Sadly, I think I need to adjust the Stockman. I asked for the armholes to be slightly raised, which has made the...
I have one almost exactly as you describe: a modified M422A with olive knits. Only been wearing it for a few weeks and will post pics when I get around to it. I think it's pretty damn cool but I'm a little worried that it hasn't done that well on my standard Aero test: ie it's had only one...
Some great posts, especially from HD. I wouldn't be too hard on the oil pull, especially if you already have an FQHH jacket. I recently received a modified M422A (pics soon) in brown oil pull and, like a precocious child, it's showing all the signs of turning into a very interesting adult...
