Meanwhile, I don't know if I can wait a whole year to get my GW A1. I may need somewhere to go where I can say, "My name's SJ, and I I'm a vintage-jacket addict."
Hang on. I'm there.

Flashman, sir, where are the pics? (Unless I've seen you out on the street in London.) Would love to see them, in anticipation of my own GW A1 arriving.
Seconded on the tired A2.

I have long been a fan of good coffee (hard living in the UK, until very recently -- the flat white has arrived!) but only started grinding my own when given a Braun grinder by colleagues on leaving my last job. And I'm very glad I did. I'd say it's easily increased my enjoyment of coffee...
Just pulled the trigger on a GW A-1. Butte, thanks for the inspiration, sir!
I hope I'm as enthusiastic in a year's time, when the thing actually arrives.

Yeah, that's the way to go (although I did just return my Stockman to have the armholes widened slightly and longer arms put on, and it fits a lot better now). I also second HighandDry's remark above about not messing with the basic pattern: things just go wrong.
(One thing I'm less crazy...
I agree that a nylon backpack would look even worse than normal against an Aero.
As an alternative, this Seil Marschall number is beautiful and would probably outlast you: http://oliverspencer.co.uk/seil-marschall-canvas-navy-mini-canoe-rucksack
German firm; been making them for decades.

I tried on one of the timeworn ELC A-1s today, at the American Store in Covent Garden (London). I have to say I wasn't in love with it. I am definitely a size 42 in that cut (I'm 6"1'): I can't imagine another of their sizes fitting me better but this was nonetheless too tight around the...
Harris, I can't remember that clearly, I'm afraid, but I will be back around there in the next few days and will have another look. The Oi Polloi version does look pretty nice, after all. My advice: don't even consider buying the jacket until the maker has entirely satisfied all your inquiries...
Good look, Griff. You look a bit like me.
What are your thoughts on the Ironhearts? Thinking of investing but they seem frightful expensive.
Likewise, I'm close to saying yes to a GW A-1. Dr H, what are the design tweaks you mention? And would you share how mcuh you got for your previous one...
I agree. Neat-fitting is always best. With thick hides such as horse, you don't want any surplus hanging off you or sticking out. It should be like good-fitting armour. Good-fitting and very stylish armour. My Aero 30s HB is still my best-fitting jacket.

Anyone got a link to good A1 threads on the Lounge? You can't search using "A1". Just heard back from Vicky at GW. Year-long wait on the A1s, apparently!
SJ
Hm, yes, I've emailed but no reply. John actually messaged me out of the blue a while ago, in response to a post here, with some very useful information about his jackets.
I need to wean myself off Aero, and the GW prices are looking comparable now.
