Well, I want a mouton partly because the last winter here (in London) was so fiercely cold and I didn't really have anything that cut the mustard.
Jan, this shaved mouton of which you speak -- did you specify that when you ordered or even do it yourself? Is it less warm than the fluffy...
Mr H, thank you. It seems that Aero does indeed do detachable collars now, although I was worried that they would look "detachable" and production-line.
Your is actually called rust, then? (It's a nice colour.)
Sir J
My latest leather jacket obsession concerns mouton collars. I will almost certainly include one on my latest Aero but would be very grateful to anyone who could post pictures here of their mouton-enhanced jackets, Aero in particular and in all manner of colours.
I am also very keen to see a...
I agree. I think you need an extra 2-2.5in on the body and an extra .5-1in on the arms. Other than that it seems fine. The HYWM is meant to be a short cut but that is too short.
Sir J
I love leather jackets but, equally and perhaps even more so, I love warm - no, hot - weather. But then I did grow up in Australia, so that's what feels natural. l live in London now and there always seems to be a nasty underchill to the weather, no matter how apparently warm.
Sir J
I am thinking of getting my next Aero -- a 50s halfbelt -- in brown seal jerky horsehide. I like the look of it; I just don't know quite what it is. Can anybody enlighten me? Why 'seal'? Why 'jerky'? And how does it differ in look and so on from normal horsehide?
Also pics of any jackets made...
My question was really whether these proto-nerds, so to speak, were aware of their nerdiness, of their outsider status, and whether they were, or became, proud of their marginality -- as modern-day nerds have become. Indeed (I am not the only one to make this observation) nerds are coming to...
Thanks for the compliments, fellas. The hat is a Gatsby from the extraordinary Bates Gentlemen's Hatter, on Jermyn St, in London. If you are ever visiting, and are a hat fan, drop in. It's like something out of Dickens, feels unchanged for at least a century. And their hats come in all sizes...
Hilarious, Creeping Past. I've often thought the same myself and am very amused that someone's actually formulated a law. The present discussion is somewhat different, however, in that it began with explicit mention of Nazis (all right, and Luftwaffe pilots).
And you also make an interesting...
Maybe so. The statement was made for rhetorical effect. But I think you'll agree that it's morally questionable to wear a jacket so intimately associated even with a Nazi fellow traveller. I do think it's an issue. Maybe not for you, gentlemen, but I wouldn't wear a jacket for that reason. There...
Thanks for these very useful responses. Actually, what I had in mind was not an A2, of which I am not a particular fan, but this rather beautiful item - one of the few non-A2s he makes. That leather is positively luscious.
Does anyone own one of these Californians?
(Seems strange that he's...
Some great ideas here. Thanks, all.
I'm also curious to note, parenthetically, how many Antipodeans there are within the Lounge, I pretty much hailing, originally, from that part of the world.
