Perhaps not my favorite, but one I'd certainly enjoy owning - a Willys Model 77. Especially with the "Go-Devil" engine warmed up with period-correct speed parts.

At least the styles in Southern California. Keep in mind that prior to WWII, California was pretty insular. It has been said that the appliances, telephones, and other things used in Hollywood films in the period between the wars are usually actually slightly different in design from the rest...
Right after I joined, I sent Paddy a Size 7 Pilgrim via USPS. It was just in your average cardboard box, stuffed with plastic bags and with a little newsprint on top (away from the hat, thank you very much), wrapped in a cut-up grocery bag. I think it cost maybe $20 to ship to the UK. I know...
My wife just started replacing the elastic in our Bum Geniuses. It's going pretty well, so if you're at all handy, you could try that. OTOH, if you're like my wife, you'll enjoy buying new ones even more! :)

Wow, that is gorgeous. I think I spy a lot of 1930s American low-priced makes in this car. Some type of 1950s homebuilt, I'd say, but probably the best work on one I've ever seen outside of the Coachcraft-built "Yankee Doodle Roadster."
I like the original paint scheme considerably better...
I just missed on one of these at the local thrift shop. I saw it, went home to think about it, came back in a couple days and it was sold. It looked to be in awesome condition. Oh well, I"m not sure I really wanted the challenge of trying to re-spool 120 film onto Kodak's proprietary rolls...
The ones sold in most supermarkets and baby shops (i.e. Gerber prefolds and the like) are only good for rags. Proper cloth diapers are pretty much available only in botique stores or online, though there are occasional rumors that Target might start selling the good stuff.
We've been cloth...
Funny, that's what I wear every day. I also have a pair in black, both with flat laces from Rite Aid. Comfortable, hard wearing shoe for the price. I also polish with oxblood polish, which gives the shoe a more "russet" color every time.

Not too long ago I was listening to an NPR interview with a country/bluegrass star and he mentioned the nudie suits of the late-'40s and early-'50s. He said it was a form of respect for the audience. When you went to a place like the Grand Old Opry in that era, you might not be right up close...
The hat is definitely not the problem, I've had that covered for a long time. I just need the badge.
You would think, but I haven't had any luck yet.

I need a hat device for a service station attendant's costume I'm putting together. Any ideas on where I can get one (other than eBay) on short notice? A reproduction would be nice.

Doesn't strike me that more jewelry is really a good solution in an active/outdoors environment. If it's too warm to be wearing a sweater, tucking it into the shirt is the solution.
On Michigan Avenue, however, I'd agree with you on the tie bar.
-Dave
Correct me if I'm wrong, but when wearing a tie doing outdoorsy things, wouldn't it be more appropriate if the tie were either (1) extremely short, or (2) tucked into the shirt between the buttons at sternum level? I know that when I was on Mackinac Island for my honeymoon, I found it most...
