Since you're also a Whippet owner, would you care to pose them side by side so we can compare the dimensions? I've always heard/suspected that a Fed could make a decent Whippet stand-in with a few tweaks (edge binding, taller ribbon) but I've never seen them side by side. Thanks!

Two questions:
1) Does the brown one in the lower left have a name? I really like it.
2) Does "1912" reference the beginning of "Last Crusade" when young Indy loses his campaign hat but gains his first fedora?

Oh good. Alas, I have no pics of either of our Halloween costumes. I was so busy getting ready, I didn't take any. There are some in existence however, taken by family and friends, and if I get them I'll post them up.

Ten-Mile Cloth
I just spent some time online searching for a blaze orange, plaid mackinaw, and wouldn't you know it, apparently such a creature doesn't exist? I did find one place that was willing to hand paint the black parts on a solid orange fabric with fabric dye, however, which could be...
Deer Hunters?
We have adventurers in this thread, and we have gun owners on another. Seems like the logical extension, at least in my neck of the woods, would be deer hunters. Anybody trudging off into the snowy north this weekend with their sporterized Krag to bag some venison? If so, what...
Sounds comfy and stylish. My local Pennys has some pretty nice Gab trousers at the moment, but any tips as to where to pick up Gab shirts? I love the feel of that stuff.

I am a man, and I also agree. I hope nobody got the impression that I don't appreciate the styles of the 1920s. I love the flapper look, even on a woman with curves. I was just pointing out the historical irony of it.
Quite frankly, as long as a woman (or a man for that matter) puts some...
I've been following with great interest the thread in the Powder Room. Anyone care to elaborate on what Mr. Middle Class was wearing in the '46 to '54 period for my edification?

My friends and wife think I'm a Luddite, but I think that sums up my feelings on the matter a bit better. I don't mind modern conveniences, I just wish they made ones with some visual appeal (to me, that is. I'm sure the smudgy mirror finish on my cellphone is very appealing to your average...
This post has really set my mind at ease. I've given up on ever owning a Whippet, prices in my size are just ridiculous when you consider that you're buying a hat sight unseen. The fact that brand new Fed IVs can be purchased all day and look that good, along with your testimonial have sealed...
Isn't it kind of sad that the flapper is more feminine than what we've got now?
FWIW, the prevalance of drop-waisted and flapper-y dresses and jewelry resulted in my wife's costume choice this Halloween. We just walked into TJ Maxx and assembled a costume off the rack. I'm still not seeing...
I grew up reading c.1958 east-coast hot rodding magazines and to me that's the archtype of the real late-fifties east-coast hot rod: a channeled, but unchopped coupe. Not the prettiest, but definitely rough-and-tumble cool.

1928 Buick
Sharp car there, Plus 4. There's a '28 Buick chassis, hood, engine, and radiator in a junkyard near me. There might be a cowl as well. I've often fantasized about buying it and building a speedster.

True Hudson guys will tell you that the last real Hudsons were built in '54. The '55 and '56 models are "Hashes" (Nashes disguised as Hudsons). Personally, I've always enjoyed the '55s, however.

Very neat, Big Man. Those kinds of papers lend an invaluable history to old cars that so many are lacking. Modern privacy laws have made tracking down an old car's history all the harder. Too bad you don't still have that old Plymouth, or the Olds for that matter.
