If I'm not mistaken, one of the most prominent US dealers of Ural motorcycles is in the Detroit area. Perhaps you could enlist their help in changing the tire?

There is at least one thread somewhere hearabouts regarding constructing one's own block. As I recall, some members laminated blocks of hardwood and finished them with spar varnish. Choice of wood was critical, so as not to end up with sap melting out during the steaming, I thought the wood of...
Old Soul, you need to go to the HAMB and look up the monthly banger meets. Once you see what those guys can do with an old Ford Four, you'll never think about V8s again!
But if you need some inspiration...

You fighter pilot types, where can I get a silk scarf?
My brother is an avid motorcyclist and has often expressed an interest in keeping his neck from chafing with a silk scarf (much like a Hurricane pilot, he's got to keep his head on a swivel, to see those SUVs coming out of the sun). Any...
This weekend I went Christmas shopping in an antique store in Bay City. My darling wife went nuts over a white "gum drop" style lady's hat, so I purchased it as her Christmas gift. It's a Hückel and seems to be fur felt, albeit a very "furry" fur felt. It has a silk lining and a brown leather...
Probably if there's any interest in toys here, it's more in pre-war tinplate stuff, but as you may have figured out from my posts, I'm really a 1946 to 1955 kind of guy. So I thought I'd share this discovery.
I've been snooping around for O-scale (roughly 1:43 to 1:55) toys to buy my...
How about Tom and Jerries? That was a family tradition on my mother's side that we've talked about reviving for years, but haven't gotten quite around to yet.

I'm actually wearing a dark-brown cord sport coat as I type this, and I very nearly bought a three-piece corduroy suit not too long ago (it might still be in the thrift shop where I found it, those kind of came and went with the local hipsters right around the time I graduated high school)...
I don't have the legs for it, I'm sure, but are they making uniforms for the Muskegon Lassies or Belles? They're postwar, so they're probably not as interesting to Jane Consumer-of-golden-era-things, though.

I'm curious to know what farm teams served the White Sox in the 1938 to 1940 era. My grandfather supported himself between graduating from Grinnell College and joining the Army Air Corps, playing minor league baseball for somebody within the White Sox system (he remained a loyal Sox fan). It...
What a great thread. When I was in junior high, I had an Ike jacket that I wore on occasion, and now I've got a hankering to get another. It would be swell to find one in gray or blue, so as not to be so obviously wearing mil-surp, though the ATF repop looks quite nice.
Not so much any...
I actually have the perfect 1950s accessory heater to solve that problem. It's just a heater core in a chrome box with a door. Mount it to the dash (passenger side of the firewall, not the instrument panel), run some lines to the engine, and voila, better-than-factory heat!
Now I just need...
Oh dear, my wife is viewing this picture right now, I feel bad for her. She has liked the books though.
Personally, I don't know that I care for this back-breaking-ripping-out-through-the-chest stuff. Ergh.

This thread is killing me. On Craigslist near me right now there's a guy practically giving away a '51 Dodge.
When I lived in Lansing, there was a forelorn looking '50 Meadowbrook sitting beside Grand River Avenue with a "For Sale" sign in the window, but no phone number and no apparently...
Thank you, sir. I intend to start or participate in that epidemic as soon as I can afford to! Certainly more cost-effective than purchasing an original.
