Wow swinggal, that uniform looks great!! Idon't know how baseball is played either, it isn't a big sport over here in the UK like it is in the US, however i have heard of and played softball is it like that? It also looks like it is a bit like rounders, but i couldn't say what the difference is?[huh]

That's pretty cool. Who didn't love that movie, "A League of Their Own"? But every time I see a picture of those plucky gals, with those short skirts, I remember the scene where one of the players slid into the bag and lacerated her thigh beyond description. Those uniforms were SOOO impractical for the game of baseball!

I have more photos of full length shots at home and will post them tonight.

Mel and I watched League of their Own quite a lot to get the uniform right, Apparently the uniforms in the movie were copied straight form existing vintage ones. Mel sketched a lot of things down, and I remember her saying it was a challenge because of the front opening and odd collar and getting the skirt to sit right.

The patches, I did my research and and reproduced them in Photoshop (I'm a designer). I printed them out on t-shirt transfers and ironeds them onto the same fabric as the dress. Then Mel embroidered the edges onto the dress, so they look just like a patch. You cant see it here but I have the AA logo on the arm left shoulder too. BTW, my hair was perfectly curled at the back at the beginning of the night. Had all fallen out due to the heat by the time the pic was taken. Not an especially flattering shot either.

I'll have a look at home and see if I still have it. The league logo (on the arm) I got from a website I think.

Wow, what a cool idea!! :) It's great to see something different and unusual from the era in terms of reenacting-- yet something that actually existed back then. And I LOVE baseball! Thanks for bringing this one back up!

Maisie, baseball is almost exactly like softball, except for a few details. The field is larger, the ball is smaller, and pitching is overhand. (There are some other minor differences, but those are the basics.) While there's nothing "soft" about the softball played by the US Women's National Team and other pro-level softball players, baseball is considered "hardball" and a faster-moving, more difficult variation.

I'm in love with these baseball cards!: http://www.fritschcards.com/pages/aagpbl.html

Hi Ladies. Ballcap.com has Rockford peaches hats. A few different years also.
Don't let the drawing of the hat scare you away. they are made with antique equipment and are fine wool.

I don't have the legs for it, I'm sure, but are they making uniforms for the Muskegon Lassies or Belles? They're postwar, so they're probably not as interesting to Jane Consumer-of-golden-era-things, though.

I am really excited because I will be getting one of those uniform soon!! I opted to go for the Kenosha Comets uniform since I was born and raised in Kenosha, Wisconsin! :)

Did you ever get your uniform in?
