It was a 283 before I got it. Now it's a 350/350 turbo combo w/ a 4.11 rear. Quick but hard on the wallet at the pump, lol. Everything else is stock. I would love to find a 283 and hop it up like they would have done in 58-60 or so.

It might be easier on the wallet to get the 283, build it mildly, and put an S10 5-speed behind it. Of course, if you're using the old girl like a truck was intended, I'd stay with the 350.

This coming from a guy whose favorite Chevy motor is the 327.

I like the 327 a lot too. I'm just trying to stay period correct. I was going to build it fairly mild. I wanted 300hp with either 3 2's, or mechnical fuel injection. Anymore than that would be gravy. I'm more of a cruiser now. I've been kicking around an idea of a 348 too. I'm not in the market for any of it unless something cheap comes along so I don't have to decide right now. You cannot beat the look of triple carbs - I've got an Offy manifold for my Camaro, but haven't gotten around to assembling the carburetors yet. As for Rochester mechanical fuel injection, I've always heard those are awfully hard to tune - but maybe with 51 years of experience, someone has figured out how to do it, eh? ;)

Regarding the big block option, too bad you aren't closer, I know of a local junkyard with a '58 348 in the back of an old station wagon that looks like it's probably rebuildable. I also have a family friend that has a 409 from an old dump truck. My understanding is that the low-output 409s can use 348 intakes, so you could have a few extra cubes but the 348 look.

Thanks for the heads up on the intake. You learn something new every day,lol. There's slim pickens around here so far as I just moved here. Something always comes up though ;)

I grew up reading c.1958 east-coast hot rodding magazines and to me that's the archtype of the real late-fifties east-coast hot rod: a channeled, but unchopped coupe. Not the prettiest, but definitely rough-and-tumble cool.

Hi Dave,
You have a good eye because that's exactly where the car came from, the New England area. It used to belong to a guy named 'Stick' Harding. That's why my Dad liked it too, because it was unchopped and still in it's original 50s Hot rod condition. We're in NJ, so he grew up seeing the East coast cars too.

Well, here's my ride

1954 Chevy 210 coupe. Nosed, decked, shaved, notched, and bagged on all four corners. GM long-block 350 V8, GM TH350 auto transmission, Mustang II front end, Chevy 10-bolt rear-end w/. 3:73 gear ratio. Pinstripe by "Scratch."

This is my 1928 Buick Opera Coupe.

It's the Master 6 and it has become (many years ago) a new paint.
The interior is almost original.
I had some problems wilt the carb and the ignition. But after a lot of hours in garage, and with help of the AACA the engine is running perfect now.

Funny story: i had the ignition 180 degrees next to what it should be. BANG!! So i had to buy a new exhaust pipe and muffler. Stupid me.:rolleyes:

Just got this home this weekend :)

Plans are for a late 40s/early 50s hotrod, eventually going on a '32 frame with a warmed up flathead 8... but for now she's staying fendered, I'm 'souping' up the 'banger, probably whacking the roof 4"... better get to work!

Has anybody in the FL made his own monoposto?
I mean: use a old chassis and engine, and then rebuild a 'new' monoposto?

Maybe, when i get the time....................and the money.............i like to use a chassis and straight 8 from a 1930 / 1931 Buick to get this:
