Thanks for this! I love ordinary, street-scene and candid photos from the Victorians to the 40s, too! I have a whole folder on my HD devoted to them :)
I always hope for this day - to meet that mysterious someone who is close to my age and loves vintage - but it hasn't happened here. And I really don't think it ever will. :(
The only contact I've had with "vintage" culture around here is from the elderly customers who used to shop at Home...
I've always been open-minded. I feel like I've done everything.
-Been to death metal/punk/rock concerts and been caught in mosh pits.
-Did yoga, even serious weightlifting. I used to be an exercise nut.
-Been to rodeos, gone dirt biking, partied in the woods, listened to nothing but...
I agree that vintage is better-made than most of today's clothes. I mostly wear vintage-inspired modern clothes. Cheap clothes, too. Most have lasted me because I take very good care of them. I try not to put anything in the dryer and only put those items in the washer that need it...
Whoo-hoo! Just watched the entire film Living On Love (1937). It was good, by the way. I thought it was a little bit better than Rafter Romance (1933 - but I love RR, too!)
I don't know if any comments are directed towards me, but here's *my* 2 cents to clear up any confusion:
-NOWHERE in my post does it say all high-end resturants are snobby and give bad serivce. I was speaking of ONE PARTICULAR PLACE.
-The price tag was not an issue, since there was a...
Yes to that one, too! I like burning the Peep over the flame from my stove. The sugar melts into this yummy, chewy glob! And I like to burn them. Mmmmm, marshmallow carbon!! :essen:
I've had lots of good service. New Jersey is the land of the diner so I've eaten in too many to pick just ONE "extra mile" form of good service!
The worst -- at a resturant in New Hope, PA. Very snobby. I don't think they had any intention on serving us because we didn't look like we had...
Sometimes I would put peanut butter on there, too. And then there were those few times I put a Peep on top :o
I'm not overweight, either. Amazing considering some of the junk I've ever eaten!
You bet! I'd spread Nutella on the rice cake, put a few anchovies on there, then top it off with a swirl of Cake-Mate squeeze icing! I don't know if I could eat such a contraption today....
COOKIES. Any kind. Before I know it I'll have eaten half a bag :o
I never ever buy cookies. I just can't walk into the kitchen knowing that they are there and not grab 3 at a time.
And icing. I'll eat icing straight from the container :o
Peeps, too. Oh how I love the Peep.
I...
The book nearest to me didn't go up to page 161 so I had to grab the one next to it...
And page 161 on THAT book was a picture!
So the third book in on my bookshelf is...
"Sometimes, alternative takes were used to save a second camera man."
-Mary Pickford Rediscovered by Kevin Brownlow
Cool!
I detect a true Philly accent, too :)
I always pronounced her name "Lee-la", also. I like "Ly-la" better! And here's another scan from May 1928 issue of Motion Picture Classic. Sorry it's a bit crooked, but sometimes it's really hard to get a straight scan from such old, delicate...
I was a forklift driver for 5 years. I can drive them all -- sit-down, stand-up, cherry pickers, and aisle cars!
I hate to sound stereotypical, but this is the truth -- I was the only feminine-looking female forklift driver in all of the places I've ever worked and the guys always LOVED me!
