I like pictures like that too, especially since it's just an everyday picture that might have not been that interesting back then...but today it exudes a sort of magic.

It's in Flushing, Michigan, a tiny burg west of Flint. Here is a pic of the same street today. The old hardware store and drugstore have the big awnings on the left. Sorry it's so small, but it was all I could find...

Wow, I didn't even notice that it was labeled "Flushing" until it was just pointed out. I used to go to a church right near that town.

Left to Right . . .

First car is a '36 Chevrolet. The hood side trim gave it away.
Second car is a '37 Ford. I just know these.
Third car is a '34 Ford. Although, I had to make sure it wasn't a '33 or '34 Dodge.
*Fourth car - I may be wrong, but I'm guessing '39 LaSalle. Please see below.*
Fifth car is a '40 Buick. I only had to verify the year.

*Fourth car looks like a '39 LaSalle (it's not a '40 - grills on fender are different), but the headlights seem wrong and the central grill doesn't seem tall enough (could be the reflection, though). It almost looks like it could be a '39 Nash Kelvinator - the grill seems to lean forward like one - but those cars have square headlights mounted flush to the outside of the fenders. So, please see above.*

I love photos like these. Thanks, Midnight Palace. Keep 'em coming. :)

Thanks for this! I love ordinary, street-scene and candid photos from the Victorians to the 40s, too! I have a whole folder on my HD devoted to them :)

Post some. Maybe we can find modern images and do a "then-and-now" kind of thing. I love that stuff.

seeing the then and now though sometimes makes me sad. Especially when they've bulldozed the 'then' to put in a crappy archetecturally boring 'now' strip mall...

I just might! I love that stuff, too.
I have a book about South Jersey Movie Houses and it's always fun (but depressing) to see them in their glories in the 1930s and then ride past them today :(

I believe the fourth car is a 1939 Oldsmobile.

Right you are, Flivver! I somehow missed that page while looking for it. Headlights, grill and everything. Perfect match!

I'm kind of a fan of Oldsmobiles of this era (I guess it's really Oldsmobiles of ANY era). My parents had a 1940 Olds "66" Coupe when I was born.
