What do you guys use or recommend to apply Pecard's leather dressing...

I used fingers, too. And you should see my fingers now! Beautiful grain and no need to reapply Pecard's for years! ;)

    A Special Barbisio

It is certainly a leg up. But you have to have the taste to want these hats and the talent to find them, too. Thanks for sharing- we need more of that here.

If you could only have one hat....

WeeGee has style to spare. I was just thinking about how he does such justice to his VS Spumoni, I hesitate to pose for a picture of mine on this forum. Garrett appears to have quite the hat collection... and good taste in comics, too (yeah, I know the quote came from the movie first...

If you could only have one hat....

I get anxious every time I see this thread title. I really do. I hope never to have to decide. BTW, classic Whippet, wolfmanjack.

    Which custom hatter?

People absolutely buy open crown hats and bash them to taste. I believe all felt has at least a bit of stiffening agent in it. That's what makes it keep its shape when steamed or bashed. But yeah, the crown is shaped using carved wood blocks. Not everyone has every possible block...

Andykev has the hat: http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?t=643 No need to be silly.

    Which custom hatter?

Hm, doesn't say that on the site. I do know that they have, at least in the past, produced hats made from nutria blends, so 100% beaver is simply not true. Would not be surprised to hear some of the felts they've used have contained some "bunny". But let me also point out that...

How NOT to stretch a hat

To be clear, Lefty says, "they often shrink back down". Often they don't. It depends on the hat. There are quite a few posts on how to use Lexol to be found on this site. My condolences on your Borsalino sweatband. Those corrugated sweat guards in the front of most vintage Borsalino...

Aero "Jerky" Horsehide vs. "Smooth" FQHH

A leather jacket is a durable good. But I'm afraid you'd be improving the consumption of durable goods in Scotland, not here in the US. So it's much more defensible to buy a Goodwear, Schott, Johnson, or Langlitz jacket, made in the USA. Or have a partner who doesn't even notice...

    Johnson Leather - jacket

Like I said, cow or steer. It's been a long time. It was one of their heaviest, but I think they had one heavier that they reserved for their motorcycle cop jackets. I lifted one of those and found it remarkably heavy. At the time I bought a Johnson because I knew people who had...

    Caxton Hats

worthlesswithoutpics I have a grey fedora that I tried to sell and now wear pretty regularly. I had a really nice reddish brown Stratoliner-style Caxton that I believe I sold to someone on the Lounge. You can find pictures here: http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?t=29129...

    Johnson Leather - jacket

Let me show you my Johnson I bought this jacket at least 12 years ago. It has held up well, though I am thinking of seeing just how good that lifetime warrantee is, since there are a few things that need attention after many years of hard wear (sleeve zippers, holes in lining, etc). I...

A-1 Jacket / A1 Flying Jacket - The ultimate Golden Era flying accessory!

New Goodwear A-1 My A-1 has finally landed. I'll spare you the story and go straight to the pictures. Since you know what the jacket looks like, I'll go straight to pictures of the jacket on me and close-ups of the capeskin, which is probably what you're curious about. The A-1 was...

ALL REPRO R.A.F. Irvin type jackets

Have you guys seen the price WPG is offering at the moment for their Irvins? $350. It's so crazy I had to send a PM to Spitfire just to make sure it was the same great jacket. I doubt you can do better than twice that price. If I didn't live in California, where I could enjoy that jacket...

A-1 Jacket / A1 Flying Jacket - The ultimate Golden Era flying accessory!

How Italian. I love the extra ribs on the knits. But like the Turnbull and Asser, it follows some of the rules of the type A-1 without adopting any of the spirit. Nice jackets, but I'm not sure why they bother. Better to come up with something original- especially at what I assume are...
