Shower. ALL THE TIME. Philly water = yuck. I even feel kind of gross showering in it. And our pipes are about 80 years old, too. The water comes out of the bath spout all greyish. I'll pass.
Thanks girls!
The skirt never skims the hips like the pattern picture!!! I actually think it looks better on me this way. And the skirt pieces weren't as long as the pattern picture -- I actually only have about a 1 inch hem here.
I *LOVE* this dress! There's ZERO mistakes on...
I've never had flashes of vintageness until I moved to the city. My neighbourhood is pure 1880s-1920s. My building was built in 1926 and still has a lot of it's original things.
But I usually get that time transport feeling for quick seconds, and usually when I'm walking in the city at...
What I did on xmas:
Buttons, fabric, and wonk!
From this:
It's supposed to be the skirt on the right, but the instructions confused me a little so I just made stuff up as I went along. I'm not really happy with the result. The fabric sucked (polyester) -- I even burned it at...
My faves!!! The one on the right on the bottom picture.
Because I needed a slip for my blue gingham dress, here it is:

I figure this can also be my first try at "silky materials." lol
Oh yes -- Fabric Row. It's about 5 blocks of nothing but fabric and sewing shops on 4th Street in Philly. It's considered "Historical", even! But it's a hassle to get into the city and I don't like going by myself (hubby has no interest) so I'm mostly a Jo-Ann's girl.
As for shrinkage --...
I don't think I'm experienced enough to buy a lot of my fabric online. I buy lots of novelty cottons from fabric.com, Fabric Paradise, and Ladybutton Fabrics, but for other stuff I still prefer to go to Jo-Ann's or Fabric Row. I'm still learning what everything is and how it feels. I'm want...
I bought this lovely pattern a few weeks ago at Jo-Ann's and only just realised it isn't in my size! I mistakenly bought a 6-8-10 instead of a 16. It's from the "Vintage Vogue" pattern line and it dates from 1935. The pattern is still folded up and has never been opened. It retails for $25...
That looks fab! And oh-so-comfy, too.
I feel like I'm taking over the thread here lol , but I made this last night:
From this:
Which is also the pink skully dress I posted a few pages back! This is the more "formal" material. And I did MUCH better on this one with the...
When I was a small child I LOVED old movies, and I would stay up nights watching them. I was eerily attracted to them. One of my favourite things to do was read the TV Guide, find the oldest movie I could and tune in :) I also used to play dress-up "flapper" style. I had a black wig that I...
Thanks everyone! I spent all week making this:
From this:

I MADE THAT!!
I made a lot less hidden mistakes on this, too ;) One majour dislike about it is the thin, flimsy fabric I used. I'll def need to invest in a slip when I decide to wear this.
Also...
First -- I say the same thing EVERY SINGLE DAY. It was hard narrowing it down to just 5 -- and I didn't want to go into the 40-50 dollar territory (they're usually the best darnnit!)
And second, that Ann Sheridan pattern is going to be a challenge! I've never worked with ruffles. But I'm...
I'll admit, I had the wrong idea about you FM. I like this new "I'm willing to share my love of vintage" attitude. I love looking at your photos and do admire your dedication. You really should be happy that you have this gift -- not mad at the "modern" world. I can only dream of such...
