    Show us what you've made!

Thanks! I've been sewing since September and I only had two informal "lessons" with a professional seamstress friend. Everything else I just figured out on my own and by doing it/taking chances. :) And everyone else's dresses on here look FABBBBBBB, too. I admire hand-made dresses so much!

My two favourite dresses I've made recently... From this... And... I didn't like the way the sleeves looked on me so I made them short and poofy. The high neckline NEVER looks good me, so I left it open and piped it. One bow was enough.

    Show us your vintage patterns!

At an antique shop in Jersey is a little old lady who said she used to be a tailor. She has a WHOLE BUNCH of vintage patterns for sale for ONE DOLLAR each! Most of the patterns were 60s/70s, unfortunately for me, but she had a sprinkling of 50s in there and one from the 40s (which I snatched...

Typical London Street Scene in 1935

I love it. Would have been more interesting if there were more women with gleaming white shoes.

    post-break up interests changing

You are so young. I HATE sounding like an old fogey, but when I was in my late teens/early 20s I was still searching for myself and trying on all different kinds of personas. It's when I found vintage when I was 23 that something stuck! But I still love all those personas I once adapted and...

What Is The Wardrobe Choice for a Vamp?

What "Vamp" means to me... Lots of veil-y fabric swathed around the body, exagerated hourglass figure, fans and nets in the hair, a dark, "exotic" look. Heavy eyes and a quiet, sneaky demeanor are also a must.

Ooooh, love the Bebe icon, brunettebeauty! I got these yesterday: I bought this too small on purpose so I can teach myself to resize it. I've always wanted a 40s shorts outfit, but never saw one in my size. And don't worry gals -- I'll be tracing the pattern and working from that...

    NYC's Film Forum

How far in advance do tickets go on sale online? I went to a few Clara Bow films there in '99 and the theatres were practically empty. I went to a few "Women of Pre-Code" films in '00 and it was PACKED!! There was a line down the street to get in! I want to make sure no one gets in the way...

    What makes you feel vintage?

Speaking of skirts, I usually wear long, semi-fitted 1930s skirts that end mid-calf. It's been bitterly cold here so my legs have been a bit exposed to the frostiness. Therefore, I get the inevitable dry, flakey, itchy skin :( Well, today in work I couldn't take it anymore and right at...

    "Brand New" 1950's Home!

It looks like my house when I was a kid before my mom decided she wanted a "country" update in the 80s (PUKE!) I'm wondering why the owner only lived in the basement...???

    Pre-Code Hollywood New Releases.

Pre-Code Box Set to be released in April I'm utterly thrilled by this! I've only seen two of them (Murder At The Vanities & Torch Singer). I can't wait to see Merrily We Go To Hell and (especially) The Search For Beauty. I haven't heard of the others, but they look delicious. Universal and...

Copy a pattern or use an original?

I've been tracing mine by HAND!!! That's where the "busy" life comes into play. This process takes me ALL NIGHT. If there is a better way, please educate me. Perhaps you gals can elaborate on that ironing method. Afterall, I am a newbie.
