    Ventilation Grommets

Even McMaster Carr doesn't have the screen grommet or those grommets with the little fan blades they used in the Span-Am war hats. I want one or both of those...

have decided to sell my hat moulds.

Sounds like you don't really want to sell, so my sympathies. But I'm glad you'll be selling them here. They'll get into good hands.

    Post New Hats Here!

Thanks for the explanation on green fedoras, HPG and Bob. I never noticed that green fedoras were uncommon. I seem to have accumulated a few. I'm somewhat famously color-challenged, I admit. That said, I have a hard time figuring out what to wear with a green hat. So mine don't get...

have decided to sell my hat moulds.

I don't see them in the Classifieds. I know there are interested parties on this site. Where are you selling them?

    Post New Hats Here!

Okay, now I'm mystified. What is the difference in price between gray and green Borsalinos? I had no idea there was a color-based scale. And why did you send that hat to Optimo? Looked great as it arrived.

Hey Holmes, It appears your elastic was seething too much! I wonder if that can be repaired?

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Saw that one. Far too small for me. But I wondered if it might be a velour. I know a guy who has a Borsalino velour a lot like that. Outstanding hat.

    Post New Hats Here!

It appears the store closed in 2007, so it's at least two years old. That hat looks pretty new, but could be from the 70s, I guess. Here's info on the store: http://www.roanoke.com/business/wb/141353 Here's a link to where I posted my western Cavanagh...

Size differences with cloth- or leather sweatband?

I have some vintage Borsalinos with soft roan, reedless sweats you need to see... To answer the original question, the hat should be the circumference indicated by the size. HATCO is suggesting that they offer additional flexibility, but not additional capacity. I think some of us...

    The Cavanagh Club

That panama looks to be treated/painted with something? If memory serves, Dinerman recently cleaned up such a panama. You might ask him what that was all about before sending it on to Optimo.

    Silk over leather sweatband

Now I really am curious. And the Guild logo is an odd touch, given that it doesn't have a Guild Edge. Brad? Any thoughts on that?

    The Other Open Roads.....

I keep fearing it'll happen next time I go away for a week or more... Better keep training the dog to defend the hats.

Which Open Road would you travel?

I agree with both duggap and Dinerman.

    Silk over leather sweatband

Looks like a homespun means of repairing a damaged leather sweatband to me. Nice hat, but sure doesn't look older than late 40s, to judge from the liner.

    The Other Open Roads.....

Your Mallory does not say "Mallory by Stetson"? That would give some idea of how old it is, though I'm not sure exactly when that practice started. I have a Strat/OR clone by Mallory which I like a lot. It is made of "Durafelt" and is Premier quality. Does yours have a quality name? For...

    Hat care tools??

As Tomasso implies, I'd be worried about building up tape adhesive on the hat. I'd use care with tape in any event. I have never had to use tape, but I can see where it would help with dog hair. The brush is certainly kinder to the felt. But don't forget that for a lot of felt hats...
