Cecil B. DeMille Fedoras

Recently I stopped by to tour the Hollywood Heritage Museum. Among the exhibits and collections of silent film memorabilia, was Cecil B. DeMille's office, complete with furnishings, type writer, film scripts but also his two fedora hats.

One was a vintage Stetson from the thirties. It was the quality fur felt you would expect.
The second fedora, however, was a surprise.
From a distance it appeared to be silver belly. Upon closer examination, this pinch front fedora was made from a muted plaid linen. A beautiful hat! And certainly an option for summer and spring wear if you don't happen to be into straw.
I have never seen a linen fedora like this before.
Has anyone else?

You sure it wasn't a very fine panama?
Love to see a photo.

I did not take photos of the office. Next time I go I will bring along a camera.

Also, the material was indeed a high grade linen. It made for an awesome hat, in retrospect. The brim was probably two and a half inches. The crown about four inches, maybe somewhat higher. I really thought it was a silver belly Stetson from across the room.

If such a fedora were made today, I would snap it up. I was never big on straw. The linen hat was lighter than straw and, I assume, just as cooling.
