No reason why someone couldn't make a quality jacket during that time.
I bet there were plenty of fine ones coming out of Italy. But I am
surprised to see that very 40s sleeve cinch.
I'd be proud to wear a jacket like that. Very nice.
Problem with the site?
Anyone else having this same problem?
Every time I try to post a picture of a wide ribbon hat,
the post fails to show up.
Is the server down, or am I doing something wrong?
;)
Many have admired my wrinkly old Johnson.
Johnson Leathers has prices on their web site, pjstrass:
http://www.johnsonleather.com/jackets.htm
Prices do go up for custom work. But with Aero's new
pricing, they will still seem reasonable, depending on what you want.
BTW, they can get...
Papa M: At first I had the same reaction, but then it all clicked in place.
Maybe because I have worked in online retail before. The basic idea is:
- MS Live is an email address with other stuff, much like a Yahoo email account.
- eBay (or other online retailer on the list) requires that you...
Ace Rimmer, I owe you one. Okay, I owe you quite a few.
Got the Hercules and the Cashback. I'm a much happier camper.
Will report when the jacket arrives.
And Papa M, I'll report if they turn me down... but I would hope
they would take down the eBay listings if they were really...
Thanks for the info on the liner material.
No further comments on Moye v. Amanda?
Truth is, I've been caught by surprise by the Aero
price increase. What are they thinking in this economy,
with the current dollar exchange rate? Given that those of
us in the USA have to buy sight...
Spumoni
Not sure if it's technically a porkpie. Maybe a "telescope" crown.
Looks a bit like a boater. But I like it. Probably the hat for which
I get the most compliments, FWIW.
You can see pictures of mine and Weegee's, each in a different
color, in the thread here, "Art Fawcett Hall...
So what's the final consensus- Mark Moye or Amanda?
What are the pros and cons? Sounds like Mark costs $50 more,
but you'd pay it anyway in customs fees. Sounds like they're
both helpful. Thought one or two posts implied faster turnaround
from Amanda?
BTW, anyone know which is...
I've never been convinced that non-acid-free box cardboard
reacts with hats. But as Dreispitz points out, there is a fix for that.
I suspect the stuff used to tan leather sweatbands or the skin oil
and salt left on cloth ones. Just an impression I've had after looking
at a lot of hats...
What a rare hat.
I'm betting it was originally a raw edge hat and the edge binding
was added decades later. When you get it, let us know what you think?
If they were bigger, I'd offer to take those "rejects" off your hands.
Very nice. And very interesting, as always, to see reliable dates.
If they wanted those tags out, they would have been out. Or blacked out.
Those are insect bites.
I get your point. But brown can be quite sharp and, depending on
one's hair color/eye color/complexion, might be a better choice in all
but the most formal settings. I was reacting to, "...a lot more casual..."-
one can look very presentable for all sorts of occasions in a brown hat.
I think these sorts of hard and fast rules are not useful and do not hold.
There's nothing I have ever seen in old photos (aside from B&W ones)
and text or modern guides to suggest that brown hats are in any way
more or less formal than black or gray. Some of my finest hats-
Cavanagh and...
Have to agree. I found an incredible Italian overcoat among the Men's
coats at a thrift store in San Francisco. I was surprised to note that it
had been marked down for months and was now a steal. The clerk told
me it had been filed in the Women's coats for months and had just been
moved...
That sure didn't occur to me. It would be a ton of work.
The edge binding on that hat is superb, too. No, I think it's
a real Stetson and a rare one, too. I almost bought it to hang
it on my wall. But I practically decorate in hats already, so...
