Thanks - brim still too narrow. I think that I look better with a wider brim. Maybe I'll get one custom-made. I don't spend much $$ on clothes and such, so when I do, I like to buy top-drawer and it will last longer.

OK, so they're assh*les; I guess I can live with that, but what I'm most concerned about is can they make a good hat?

I know this one cat - he's a thief, a liar and a scumbag manipulative A.S.P.D. But he's an awesome pinstriper. If I wanted a car, or anything else pinstriped, I'd want him to do it. I just wouldn't trust him as far as I can fly.

Bespoketacular!

The standard and very appropriate recommendation is Art Fawcett of Vintage Silhouettes. There are several interesting examples of porkpies in his limited edition and customer galleries; he could also create any variation you like if none of those shown are what you want. He's also very pleasant to order from and charges a quite modest price.

Jaxon Monk

Jeff is right about Village Hats.

It's the Jaxon Monk and I believe it's priced at $42 in fur felt, though only in pretty small sizes.

Looks like a decent everyday wear hat, though.[huh]

Hi,

If one had a fedora with a 5 3/4 or so open crown, it's be easy to reshape into what you want. The hat in the reference photo looks like that's how it was made. If you started with a taller crown fedora, it'd have the brim width you're looking for. Just a thought.

With a wider brim than most. Any recommendations?

Why not get a wider brimmed fedora and "Porkpie" crease it? Its not that hard to do and you can do it to almost any hat that's not stiff. If you have a small head you're in luck with so many vintage hats available. That's what they did in the day. I also did that with my Akubra Sydney from David Morgan.

Not sure if it's technically a porkpie. Maybe a "telescope" crown.
Looks a bit like a boater. But I like it. Probably the hat for which
I get the most compliments, FWIW.

You can see pictures of mine and Weegee's, each in a different
color, in the thread here, "Art Fawcett Hall of Fame". I'd put a
link but that's a ridiculously long thread and I couldn't find mine.

Thanks, fellas. Looks like I should be able to come up with a winner. Gonna check into the Art Fawcett shop.

Art will make you whatever you want. Send him the photo above, and he'll be able to make that for you. The hats on his web site are just examples, not his available models or anything.
