Always look through the women's coats in thrift stores

Just a word of advice. ALways run through the women's coats in a thrift store. Many vintage overcoats, especially belted ones, end up here. Worth a look. In the past year I have found a vintage camel polo coat, and two belted 30s coats. One was in perfect condition, beautiful type like in Road to Perdition, but with a belt. And it sat in the store so long it went for half price. I know there are enough pickers in Seattle that this coat would not have lasted very long in the men's section. The other was a single breasted 20s 30s number that is quite rare, being single breasted with belt. In years past, I have found af ew others, including my coveted double breasted belted, with no buttons. To an untrained eye, it would totally look like a women's seventies coat.

So, if you are in a thrift store, take quick run by the women's coats. I will post pics of my finds soon.

Have to agree. I found an incredible Italian overcoat among the Men's
coats at a thrift store in San Francisco. I was surprised to note that it
had been marked down for months and was now a steal. The clerk told
me it had been filed in the Women's coats for months and had just been
moved to Men's. The nicest non-vintage wool fabric I own.

The funny part was the name of the brand was, "Verri Uomo". Even if
you haven't heard of the brand, the name is a bit of a give away...

Thanks, reetpleet; I will start doing that. Funny thing is, there are often women's jackets in the men's section, too. And regarding belted jackets, I recently picked up one which is single breasted, and likely European, so they are out there.

lol i was recently browsing through the mens sweaters to find some for work and happened to notice that a vest that said womens in the title was marked mens vests.
