I wonder if the bidders for this "fedora" realized it is probably a strangely
dented homburg? Fetched a good price.
"The edge is radiused or curved so it may seem greater than this from some angles. In this way the hat may appear more like a Homburg than a Fedora."
...or perhaps it is...
Pinstripe ribbon
Who got this 50s Dobbs?
I have one a lot like it, or I might have bid.
I love the pinstripe ribbon.

I'm not laughing. Whether you support our tepid attempts to catch up
to the benefits enjoyed by the rest of the industrialized world or not,
it's hardly what the people of the Eastern Block had to suffer under
dictatorships and Soviet oppression. BTW, I do support the policy here
not to...
We live in an age of hype. Hats have a zillion Xs. Well, I don't have
to tell you about hype in our society- it's all around us.
But when I see, "Extra Superiore" on what appears to be a 50s-era
Borsalino, I know that's what it is.
Enjoy!
Thanks tonyb.
Let me offer one caveat regarding vinegar. I used it a while back
to clean a part on my espresso machine. The part was made of
brass and heavily chromed. I made the mistake of leaving it in
the vinegar for a couple of days. It significantly etched the brass,
removing...
Hm... interesting... and a lot more appealing than playing with
flammables.
What kind of soap do you use? Dr. Bronners? Ivory? Woolite?
As I recall
(http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showpost.php?p=895319&postcount=6) you have also suggested white vinegar.
I might stick to water, soap...
So you don't have to completely submerge the hat?
I would have thought partial submersion would lead
to uneven cleaning?
I have also read here that it is better to fold the
sweatband out, rather than leave it against the felt?
Don't you do any scrubbing at all? Surely there
is...
To say nothing of updates to buler's avatar...
But seriously, Philip K. Nelson, if you never posted again you will have
contributed some of the most memorable posts on this site. Crofut & Knapp
hats were something special and we very much appreciate how you've
indulged us!
Fedora Loungers with vintage hats meet at the column/statue in the
center of Union Square? Not certain I can make it, but I'll do my best.
And BTW, if someone is curious to see in person a hat I have posted here, drop
me a PM and I will see if I can wear it to the event.
That sweatband is from a period closer to the war you are remembering.
Hard to nail it down in such poor condition with such poor pictures,
but I'd bet 70s. 1970s, that is. But who knows? Maybe someone put a
new sweatband in an old hat?
I sure do wish I could get ahold of some of those...
Nice "abs".
But it sure isn't NOS, as claimed. The sweat looks like it has seen
plenty of wear and the ribbon (or more likely the leather band) is
totally gone. Can't quite read the logo on the sweat, but I am
betting it says, "Nutria Quality".
I have one, and it's great. But, uh...
Great hats and catalogs. Keep 'em coming. I hope to add to this soon.
Didn't we figure that Vita-Felt came in no earlier than 1941?
I'd be interested in that Stratoliner just for the inside liner/patch.
Now JTM, I'm certain you and I are far too wise to fall for this, but
there is another way:
You've got to have it, it's too expensive, and you can borrow the dough...
And avedwards, you can always stretch or pad!
