Cool story!!!!! We have some awesome Dough-Boy statues around the state here too. This is one of my favorites that I added my Stetson Grand Central to for an image.........a style the soldier coming home would soon wear again!!!!
YES, the ORIGINAL "I" pad. All you could see in it was, "Me, Myself and I"...... And to go along with the hat theme it was made with mercury and silver:eek:............(and glass and wood).;)
And in Honor of the 101st anniversary of the signing of the Armistice as well as our 100th anniversary of the first Veterans Parade on November 11th. One of our "Dough-boys" home in the Spring of 1919, looking at a couple of new hats to go with his NEW uniform he will soon be getting...
Yes, Cavanagh did not put their felted edge on all their hats. I have a couple with bound edge and even one with a over-welt. As for people cutting brims down (or having them cut down), happened a LOT in the late 50's and into the 60's (and even earlier, they were cutting down brims in the...

Ok, here is a DIFFERENT kind of reaction story...My wife was looking at my photo album on my tablet (had some pictures of chairs and paintings she may want from an antique store) WHEN she see this picture:
and says: "That is a really nice looking Hat, you need one like that!!". When I...
I call it: "what I like to do to my rancher/cattleman crease hats to soften THAT crease when I do not have enough crown to do much else" crease....;)
I do that "reverse center thumb dent" on those......which is what I call it anyway.....I have three or four like that...
