Not too odd.....at this time the 3X were offered as the "western" version of the OR, and consequently were stiffer (giving a completely differant hand to the felt) than the Royal Deluxe which was the softer "fedora" version. You will notice, that while stiffer the 3X were thinner finer felt...
That looks like a nice one! Are there any tags behind the sweat? Also any evidence of a wind cord? That one should have had one.....which many people do remove....unfortunately....of course pretty easy to replace....but it does look great without too........nice get!
Here I have one of the last of the breed (before the sellout). A Stetson Sovereign with the felted "mode edge". Has the pre-metric square tag, wide ribbon with wind cord and is quite tapered as was the style of the mid-60's. Felt is actually not too bad.......Darker than the photo's it is a...

Texture, width, and logo impression point to one from the mid to late 60's......they did some of those ribbon styles then too....I think I even have one listed just like it in my one of my catalog postings....

You may also rub some leather treatment on it to sort of "seal" it. May just be dye transfer.......this can work even if fake leather. If besides the dye, you are getting actual debris or small flakes this can help that too.....but as Fruno said....in that event the sweat is composite, will...
