I soaked it a second time, for about six hours.
Here are the "after" shots. One surprise: the hat shrank a fair amount even though I used only cold or lukewarm
water. I had to stretch the felt (if not the leather) as if it were a 3/8. It started out a loose 7 1/2, now it's snug.
I was also...
Cleaning...
Here's the cleaning station (my bathroom sink), with the liner:
Ever wonder if liners are sized?

BTW, I rinsed it in the shower.
As has been discussed here before, Stetson Imperials, especially from
the 1940s and 50s, are hard to come by. So when I saw one a year ago
in size 7 1/2 for chump change, I decided to take a chance, even though
it clearly had problems.
When it arrived it I was both pleased and saddened. On...
Honestly, I don't remember what I've posted after all these years and I can't find a thing
with the new (or for that matter the old) search system.
This is a Dobbs West. The pictures don't quite capture the mustard color. Unique. I figure
it must be 60s vintage.
For the color...
Hear that creaking sound? That's the screams of another 3/8 hat on the stretcher...
Seriously... I've been wearing my Mode Edge 3X and Sovereign 20 hats a lot lately.
I find that thick, dense felt with that particular edge binding to be possibly the strongest,
most impervious felt ever...
I'm pretty sure Alan at JL told me just the other day that he can get the chromexel horsehide from Horween.
It is also used by various shoe manufacturers. So I don't think it's exclusive to Aero.
I assume you're referring to the redwood/black ones? Jobmaster. But with custom color combination.
I got them from the Factory Seconds page, so I don't know all the details. They had scuffs which no one
would notice. But it did cut the price in half.
Burgundy WESCOs.
I have polished these a couple of times with Meltonian cordovan and it seems to work well. Careful
of the white thread... The WESCO burgundy is apparently only available in a lighter leather. Still not thin
by any means. Between that and the comparatively thin sole, they...
The Vibergs today:
Note that the leather laces broke after about 6 months. They came with the cloth laces pictured
here as well (two pairs of laces- that's classy) and these are top knotch.
I'm not a great photographer and neither is my camera. I haven't polished these shoes all year...
My GW A-1 is now almost 2 1/2 years old. It's still great after lots of wear.
Here's my post from when it first arrived:

Here are some pics now...
I have two belts from these guys now. Really nice leather. I supplied the
buckles. BTW, great customer service. The price has gone up since 2008 though.
Big size so you can get a sense of the leather. The brown one is about
six months old and the black one is pretty new.
Edit...
New article on J. W Hats:
http://www.viamagazine.com/attractions/utahs-fab-hatmaker
Unfortunately, not a very good article. Always hard to tell what the subject said and what the
reporter distorts. This one contains the claim that he has made more hats, "than any other shop in the country"...
Because as buyers we don't like to see prices driven up... So if I were bidding on that hat I'd be very annoyed that others might be induced to bid by
seeing your post. I am not bidding on that hat (too small) just letting you know why some of us frown on posting live auctions.
Interesting. Thanks.
Sounds like the biggest difference, at least for lace-up boots, between
White's and Wesco is the arch support.
We have a thread for comparing engineer/harness boots. Now we need one for lace-up boots.
Rather than hijack this thread further, here's a new thread...
