There are 2 of these for sale on the 'Bay right now, a size 42 and a size 36, both are Gordon & Ferguson model coats and appear to be in good condition.
Good luck on your search.
Body taper is another matter; Jeff M. you bring up a good point. I know that some of the early ELC A-2's had no body taper and the jacket would fit in the chest and shoulders but be way too loose in the body.
The M-422/422a jackets were longer then A-2 jackets and certain manufacturers (maybe it was H&L Block? Fried Ostermann?) had jackets that were a full size larger then the tagged size. So if some WWII Navy aviator asked for a size 42 and his M-422 actually measured out to a size 44, it would be...
For sale on the 'Bay, repro WWII US Navy zipper deck jacket, brand NEW, size XL, final buy-it-now price of $69.00!
Item number 330917975170
Thank you for your interest.
Looks like heavy waxed cotton-canvas (similar to Filson's shelter cloth fabric jackets). The early 1930's Navy 37-J-1A jackets were of similar construction (though it was a light olive drab/khaki color).
Pretty cool jacket!
Plumbline looks like he's only wearing a t-shirt in the photo; that could contribute to the perceived oversize fit of the jacket. WWII M-422 jackets are known to be longer in the body then later model G-1 jackets; in that regard the BK seems authentic to a true WWII-spec jacket.
Just to steer this thread back onto it's original course...
Plumbline if you are just going to fold the knit material of the cuff in half (shortening it but still keeping it visible) that seems ok, if the cuff is too long. It's a much easier remedy then shortening the leather to accommodate...
I'm a tried-and-true traditionalist (and a Navy man) and I personally would never turn up the elastic cuffs! Just my 2 cents. Congrats on the new jacket!
Forced to re-list my size 46 LW A-2 (with stand collar) on the 'Bay due to non-payment.
Item number 330925479942
Thank you for your interest gentlemen.
That's one of the unique characteristics of LW: their wonderful "russet" color. Not too reddish, not overly dark, not just plain "brown". It's true russet, the way USAAF specs intended. Makes me wonder if ALL Leather items used by the Army (holsters, service cap visors, shoes/boots, etc) were...
Yes I did just order the BK 422; and I did specify the darker mid-brown mouton fur collar. Thanks for the heads up; will post pics once it arrives.
Enjoy your jacket, my friend.
Well gentlemen I just placed my order for a BK Willis and Geiger M-422 today. I hope the wait isn't too long. Don't know about the BK Victory HH for their A-2 line, but the seal brown goatskin sample Andy sent me was absolutely gorgeous! Anxiously awaiting the jacket....
