All You Need to Know About Hat Etiquette

I am not so stuck on hat wearing that I wouldn't remove it for a security camera but if they were to ever hope to find me via use of captured footage they should allow me to leave it on so the image matches reality. I don't protest removing my hat when I am instructed to do so in those settings...

    Hat-astrophe

See, those "rules" of hat etiquette that say you take a hat off indoors were made up by a hat salesman who knew the perils of removed hats were great.

    Keeping seasonal traditions????

"So, it's ok to Wear White Wool in the Winter then? " Only if you are Tom Wolfe.

Is the suit relevant in your life?

Not required any more. I'm a corporate trainer and presentations used to be suit n tie but about 10 years ago that changed. Surveys of customers told us they wanted to attend in more casual attire and that suits added nothing when worn by the facilitator. Damn shame.............

    Keeping seasonal traditions????

I guess I wasn't too clued in on any of the Labor day/Memorial day "rules". I have no white bucks, nor seersucker, nor patent leather anything.

    Keeping seasonal traditions????

I break that rule regularly. Felts year round if I'm going out after dark even on days when it tops 100. I'm one of those that feels that a straw hat is just not fully a hat. I can keep a felt on my head on windy days but straws start doing the brim flop and then they go airborne.

    Hat story

What color was the akubra? (please limit yourself to one question to which there will be one answer, we are after all, attempting to reach a target where thomasrodd can interact with Carter on a hat buy. What better cause can there be?)

can anyone help me with hat creases

In my experience, "dry" steam is the safer thing to do to hold the shpe once you've decided what you like. Dry steam is steam that flows freely out of the pot as opposed to setting a tea kettle and allowing it to boil and be forced out of the hole which usually blows water droplets out with the...

    Converting homburg.

I have done it on a couple of Stetson St Regis. The edge trim will not allow it to be ironed just as you suspected. Once the edge trim is removed the felt is very cooperative to lay flat when you steam and iron it. I have not had the edge ribbon put back on mine so they are raw edge now. The...

    Stetson Sovereign (WITH PICS)

The third view that shows the liner, sweatband, and the size tag is interesting. I had noticed an odd shaped on a couple of size tags before when I rolled down the sweatband. I took it as a wide base to give more area for attaching to back of sweat. I see on this hat that the price is printed...

NEW WAVE OF NOIR; Doing it how they did it(1920's-1940's).

You got it nailed! These photos capture the period so well. You have the look of a crime bosses' right hand man, the guy that runs a few of the bosses' rackets and has all the dames at the speakeasy running to greet you.

NEW WAVE OF NOIR; Doing it how they did it(1920's-1940's).

I totally agree! You look like you're either going to go bust up some stills or go after the 'shiner that had the nerve to start up a still without coming to see you first to give you the nice gift that all the other 'shiners and bootleggers usually give you. On second thought, I'll go with...

    WANTED: criminal hats

I have not seen the wanted posters like the first ones on in this thread. I guess it was assumed that a man would wear a hat so a mug shot made with hat donned was SOP. Way COOL!

A new way to measure a hat

Few hats I have seen are ellipses. The front and rear of any of mine are distinctly different radii.

    What's in your Garage..

1963 Tbird for restoration, 2008 Volvo S80 T6, 2006 Ford F450, 1995 Volvo 960 wagon, 2006 Ford F350, Tractors, welders, tools, and WAY too much other stuff. None in a garage since that shop/garage now houses show horses........
